It will play out pretty much as you say, but I would say without the accolades. Boyd's people will vote to block Charlie and Glen from coming out of the nominations committee. Richie's people have already made that known. And there could be some last minute deals involving Charlie and/or Maxey as negotiations are still ongoing behind the scenes. Richie's people seem to be very intent on making sure things go smoothly and that neither Charlie or Maxey and their people feel anyone is getting screwed. Richie's people have gone out of their way. For example, when arrangements were made for Richie's area to campaign from at the convention center, Richie's people made sure Charlie also had a place as apparently he didn't know to ask for it. So Richie's people did it for Charlie.
Keep in mind that if Charlie or Glen can muster 20% of the vote in the nominations committee, they have the right to bring a "minority report" to the floor for consideration. Nominations can also come from the floor after the nominations committee report is read but before it is voted on.

I had a call last night from someone saying that Richie's people were going to try to "play with the rules" at the convention. I don't see how anyone can "play with the rules" as the rules are already established. Only the SDEC can change the rules between conventions and the SDEC won't meet again until the convention and they will not make any changes then. What could happen is the chair could rule any nominations from the floor out of order per Roberts Rules of Order. In that case, someone from the floor would have to "challenge the chair" and a majority vote would overrule the chair and allow the nomination. If the chair prevails, Richie is elected and its over. However, I don't think the chair would do that and risk alienating Charlie and Glen's people. But if Richie's people don't think they have to votes to win without a runoff, they will do it.
Probably the number one thing people going to this convention do not do is read the rules. Everyone should read these rules and know these rules. Its all very simple and straightforward.
In any event, it already appears Richie has the votes to win without a runoff.
As for me, I'm real tempted right now to just take a walk from the whole thing and stay home. I get completely disgusted with long drawn out knock down drag out roll call vote floor fights. It does nothing but tear the party up. I've seen it happen way too many times.
