By JOHN MESSEDER - Times Staff Writer
In a race that went down to the final precinct, Adams County Deputy Sheriff James W. Muller edged Sheriff Raymond Newman Tuesday night for an unofficial 32-vote win. At one point near the end of the counting, Muller had been ahead by only four votes.
The final official tally will not be known until write-in votes are tallied Monday. But unofficially, with 282 absentee ballots included, Muller finished the night with 7,463 votes to Newman’s 7,431. Both men are registered Republicans, but Muller won a write-in campaign on the Democratic ticket in the May Primary Election.
In the only other contested county race, Treasurer Theresa Adamik won a third term over challenger Gary C. Dutko, her chief deputy.
