Obama leads McCain by 12 points in Colorado according to Rocky Mountain News Poll!
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 10:48 PM by FrenchieCat
Sen. Barack Obama has surged to a commanding, double-digit lead in Colorado amid soaring anxiety about the country's direction and a massive shift of independent voters into the Democratic column, a new poll finds.

After weeks of devastating economic news, Obama now leads by 12 percentage points - 52 percent to 40 percent - in the latest Rocky Mountain News/CBS4 News poll.

"Clearly, the beginning of October is not a happy time in American history, and voters are sort of internalizing the financial crisis," said pollster Lori Weigel.

Since early August, when Colorado independents were almost evenly split between the two presidential candidates, Obama has opened up a more than 2-to-1 advantage in that pivotal voting group, the poll found.

In the latest survey, only 11 percent of Coloradans said the country was heading in the right direction, while 83 percent said it was on the wrong track.

At a time when Republicans control the White House, that pessimism has created a steep climb for Sen. John McCain, who is now struggling to stay competitive in Colorado and several other states that President Bush carried in 2004.

The survey of 500 likely Colorado voters was conducted Tuesday through Thursday by Public Opinion Strategies of Alexandria, Va., the largest Republican polling firm in the country. Obama's lead was well outside the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 4.38 percentage points.

Longtime Democratic consultant Rick Ridder, who consulted on the poll, said the economic tempest has created a tidal wave for change.

9. If they are a decent Paper, I would be shocked if they could rationalize
an intellectually honest argument for John McCain.

Dividing the country is never a great option, IMO....and that is McCain's only appeal.

13. Obama draws 150,000 at rallies in Colorado!
I was at the rally in Fort Collins where almost 50,000 people showed up by police estimates (the population of Fort Collins is only about 131,000) so if this doesn't scream promise for Colorado, I don't know what does! The line to get in literally stretched for miles, and started nearly 15 hours early. I also want to mention that Fort Collins is right in the middle of a very republican district, where our current representative, Marilyn Musgrave, is up for re-election. She was rated as THE MOST CONSERVATIVE MEMBER OF CONGRESS, and she is so out of touch with reality it is scary.
At the Denver rally, an estimated 100,000 supporters arrived! I couldn't make it to that one, but I had a great spot for FoCo.

14. It’s Obama’s calm, reasonable, intelligent even presidential

Response to the troubled economic times that have drawn people to him, People trust him as opposed to McCain’s erratic, fake postponed campaign, cant even pick a qualified VP + fear mongering. I wish these reporters would tell the entire story here. People just trust Obama in these troubled times because they can sense he's the better leader. 8 years is enough of this shit too.
