"Can I call you Joe?"
Hockeypuck did that right up front because she had that "Say it ain't so Joe" line in her scumbag of tricks. The more I think about it the madder I get at her.

She could have just said, "Here, just let me be all folksy and sound friendly and sincere while I stick this knife in your back." And the fact that she flubbed the "Say it ain't so" just made it all the more transparent.

:puke:

3. He played it perfectly, calling her the Governor the whole time
Edited on Thu Oct-02-08 11:19 PM by alcibiades_mystery
Totally depersonalized her, and made her have to account for her position. That's good coaching.

Meanwhile, for the benefit of her flubbed line, she ended up personalizing him! That's bad strategy.

9. I agree
I was with a group watching and we all noticed the governor title being used consistently to good effect.

14. Yep, I was hoping he wouldn't take the bait
and he didn't. It would have been great if she would call him Joe all the way through, which would have personalized him even more. But nope, it was all for the sake of a meaningless jab. How stupid.

4. It's grating knowing how
calculated and contrived they are.

What luck she was up against someone with the personality and temperament of Biden, a literal 'Joe,' as authentic as they come.

20. She didn't use it for proper effect
She seemed to just throw it in there so she got it out, but not in a place that would have been effective. If she was going to use it she needed to do more than throw it in like an afterthought.

15. And it was great that Biden stuck to "Governor Palin" but referred to McGrumpy as "John"
Showing that he is not into false familiarity crap. He is on a 1st name basis with John McCain, but not with Sarah Palin. Nice touch by Joe, always the gentleman. Made her more "trailer park trashy" imo - no manners.

The senators are not expected to call each other senators, afaik.

16. Points to ashling! "Can i call you Joe" and then "Say it ain't so Joe."
That slipped right by me and you correctly caught a staged set up and follow-up.

It makes her look insincere and mean.

ashling, you rock.

22. Olbermann kept talking about the "Visceral"
moments, but that was a major one for me.
I knew after the first time she referred to him as Senator Biden after just asking to call him Joe that she had something on her evil little hockeypuck mind.

Actually, I think Biden did the right thing by saying sure, but not stooping to that himself.

So they dodged a disrespect bullet with that move.
