How would staff underlings find out? They've been careful about leaks up till now...
why notify someone in a way that lets types with loose lips find out so they can blab it before the hyped txt message?

51. Not a staff underling
And as for leaks, well, that is why they are called leaks.

Whether they are intentional or not is the big question that rarely gets answered.

Leaking the most boring, most expected pick hours before his faithful supporters are supposed to find out first?

Talk about asking for backlash.

If my source turns out to be right, I'm sure it's not some underling whose
job depends on keeping their mouth shut, but rather someone responsible for
communications somewhere who was lax in their security.

You'd be hard put to find some who despises them more than I do (except for maybe Helen Thomas).

This is party-connected family there, and I'm not going to get them in trouble in case they're right!
Take my word for it that they are my source (or not, makes no difference to me, I was only asking

We will never relly know, even if Biden gets the job, whether your family contacts had accurate information all along or simply heard something that wasn't accrate when they were told but turned out to happen anyway. And since no one but "DFW" knows who they are anyway, it doesn't matter.

I guess no one else here has heard a second hand report like the one you got, or at leaast they don't want to subject themselves to posting about it, lol.

Far more recent than 2003.

No public funding for abortion; it imposes a view. (Apr 2007)
Supports partial-birth abortion ban, but not undoing Roe. (Apr 2007)
Accepts Catholic church view that life begins at conception. (Apr 2007)

You can nitpick me on the details, but opposing public funding for abortions is pretty far out there, IMO.

Besides, how did he get a 36% rating as little as 5 years ago? It's not like it's 1970 or something.

I happen to find THIS ISSUE extremely important - and I often, if not always, find that those who are most progressive on women's issues are the most progressive on others.

As a woman, I naturally put women's issues near the top of my list. Don't worry, I have others.

Jamie Foxx, Fran Drescher turn out for Obama party
By SANDY COHEN – 9 hours ago

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Celebrities aren't always coy about their love affairs.

Jamie Foxx, Fran Drescher, Lucy Liu and Isaiah Washington were among the stars who proclaimed their love for Barack Obama Thursday night at a swanky soiree.

VIP donors paid $2,300 each to attend the Black and White Gala for Barack Obama at a private home in Beverly Hills.

Mario Van Peebles and other guests munched on croissants, crudites, olives and eggplant while a seven-member gospel choir performed.

They set the evening's tone with a rousing song: "Time for a change. We are the people, we can do it."

The party raised more than $200,000 for the Obama campaign, said Theresa DeBell, who hosted the event with her husband, Robert Siegel.

But it will also be one of the choices that will disturb the smallest amount

136. Don't be too sure
The novelty of the announcement wears off pretty fast.

The quality of the candidate, on the other hand, is something that
has to last through the election (and, hopefully, beyond). The
"I-told-you-so" pundits will have about 24 hours to blab before
they have to start paying attention to what the VP nominee has to
say, and Biden has never been at a loss for words. He also puts
them together better than most, so I don't think that novelty value
is of as great importance as whether or not the VP candidate can
help the ticket. Biden is one of the choices that I think will help
the ticket, even if he wasn't my first choice.

66 by the time the Inauguration rolls around.

As far as age goes, I just met Mike Dukakis, who at 74 is as
sharp as he was when running for president in 1988, if not more
so. McCain is 20 years older at 71 than Dukakis is at 74.

133. Here's a fun side story for you
A friend of mine left government service several years ago (he is Israeli, and
is ex-everything, including Mossad), and now runs a security agency in Europe.

One thing he does is run security for a sort of trade fair for decadence called
the "Millionaire fair." It is held in several cities around the world, and he
invited me to sneak in to see what it was like. He got me a security pass (I do
not qualify as a customer for that kind of stuff! LOL). Absolutely amazing. There
were diamond-encrusted cell phones and Bugatti cars, villas for sale in Italy,
yachts (some of them even present, all 80 feet of them!), etc etc. I took my
eldest daughter, as she wanted to tag along for fun. We got approached by a TV
team of the national TV station, and were asked if they could interview us. They
then said they were doing a program on men with much younger wives. I explained
that the attractive young woman with me was not my wife. They said it didn't matter,
girlfriends were OK. I then explained that she was not my girlfriend either, but my
daughter. They looked skeptical, but we confirmed it, and they said, well in THAT
case, we weren't of any interest to them for their report.

We were crestfallen (NOT! LOL).

Some Saudi oil sheikh flew in on his private jet to buy the diamond-encrusted
telephone with a briefcase full of cash, grabbed his phone and flew home the
same day. It was a little shocking, to say the least! At least now we know: reports
or people like that are not exaggerated.

And some people wonder why governments like theirs get overthrown!

Actually there are many of us here on DU that have May/December romances and we joke about it often.

There are also posters on DU that obviously have a problem with relationships others have with people who are much older/younger than them. It's not our problem, it is obviously theirs!

You just got caught in the middle of it.

And it totally messed with your thread.

131. I think picking a Washington Insider who voted for the war is a really bad idea.
Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 02:32 PM by Skwmom

I know the media, the Republicans and the Gang of Clinton are pushing for it (and that alone should make the Obama Team run from the idea).

I just don't see

1. How do you hammer McCain on his bad judgment on voting for the war?
2. Why would you allow the other side to hammer you as being politics as usual for picking a Washington Insider? I would not give them any opening to hammer back that I am the one that is more of the same. I can just hear the ads now.

139. There is an out here
If Biden can successfully articulate that his vote (and the votes of many)
to authorize the invasion--a vote that said "if necessary," which was never
established, of course--was made based on lies from a corrupt Republican
administration, and that McCain is an extension of that administration and
that corruption, then he can make the case that he will be the anti-Cheney,
and make sure Congress gets only truth on which to base their votes.

It's all in the wording, whether it comes from inside or outside the beltway.

144. One Thing Biden Seems To Be Able To Do Is "Articulate" & I For One
believe he's about as fed up about what has happened as most of us are! I recall him coming out of the Senate several months back, sputtering a few choice words that had to be bleeped!

Can't recall WHAT it was about, but he was HOT!!

154. Obama's policy/instincts fine, but Biden gives assurance to those who aren't thinking.
He also has a reservoir of respect. That didn't stop them from trying to take down Kerry, but it was about being French, rich, swift-boating, but not ideas or competency. At the end, I think Kerry survived that deconstruction, but election theft another.

That's where we have to win.

161. He's a corporate sellout, Mr. MBNA and allows McCain the opportunity to take the
change mantel. A Biden pick screams business as usual.

I remember right after the 2000 election when they were pushing the purchase of the touch screens. There was an MIT study which showed how unreliable they were and Jeb Bush and Kathleen Harris were the ones pushing them. Did any of the Democrats pause and say, hey maybe this isn't such a bright idea. Heck no, they jumped on the bandwagon and look where we are now. We've spent hundreds of millions on unreliable machines. In 2004, there was a bandwagon push for Edwards and now it's for Biden. Considering who is pushing Biden if I was on Team Obama this would really give me great pause.

Biden is NOT part of the solution. He is part of the problem and he will allow the Republicans to negatively define Obama.

So I doubt that argument would work.

157. If he hasn't ALREADY said it was a pack of lies that got us there...
then any attempt to say so now would be seen as trying to say what voters want to hear, and rightly so.

167. That is one of the best replies I have heard yet
You never know if a leak is accidental or not.

I have to wonder, though--the short list is presumably made up of people Obama
has had vetted. If it's someone NOT on the short list, does this mean Obama feels
confident enough to select them without their having been vetted? I can only think
of one person who stands up to that scrutiny, and that is Wes Clark.

Roll the drums..........

177. Yeah, I looked.
The Germans have this great word: streitsüchtig.* I think it's the generic name of some
pill half the people on DU take in the morning or something!

I think the dictionary translates it as "quarrelsome," but it's more than that. Literally
translated, it means "addicted to fighting/arguing."
