"AMERICA'S WATCHING

Tremendous audience growth
MSNBC enjoyed tremendous audience growth over the course of the Democratic National Convention in Boston this week. For the full four days of the DNC, the network averaged a 1.2 rating, 951,000 households and a .6 rating 1,300,000 total viewers from 8-11 p.m. ET. MSNBC is up more than CNN and Fox News Channel in all key measures, including primetime and total day; households, Adults 25-54, and total viewers and households versus last month (July 2004), last quarter (second quarter 2004) and the same period last year (July 28-31, 2003)."

I'm beginning to think it's no coincidence that some of the talking heads at MSNBC are taking a harder line with the right-wingers that come on their shows. MSNBC obviously noticed that they benefitted from the defections from the despicable coverage of the DNC at CNN. They're going for the left-leaning audience and I think it would behoove us to repay them by watching.

2. You know, the one network that DIFFERENTIATES itself by being
truly centrist, or even left-of-center, would immediately get almost 50% of the viewing public since the country is so evenly split.....

6. Thanks for that address.
I have been writing to Keith and Matthews but it is important to let the network know that we appreciate reporting of the truth. I also noted that they are now the network of choice in this family and we no longer automatically turn to CNN. We have to reward 'good behavior'. If CNN isn't going to listen to all our email then they are going to feel it sooner rather than later.

5. I saw that too (next to the poll posted earlier, right?)
I was sort of wondering if maybe MSNBC figured the other cable networks are going for conservative, RW audiences, why don't we go after the left/moderate? Makes sense to me, and I've been watching them more often lately.

7. I noticed the leftward shift myself during the DNC...
I think it would be a brilliant move to give Ron Reagan his very own show instead of just using him as a guest moderator. I believe that this shift is indeed a result of better ratings during the DNC. MSNBC was the only show that I watched any commentary on, and at that point in time, even some of that commentary was decidedly to the right.

8. One last kick
Give them feedback, folks! Complaining about the obvious media bias is pointless when there is a network that is making a play to try to recapture truly hard-hitting journalism.

10. Here's what I just sent to MSNBC
"It was SO incredibly exhilarating to see the right-wing shills--specifically the "swift-boat veteran" Larry Thurlow and pundit Michelle Malkin--being subjected to the kind of scrutiny that any true journalist should always be employing. I definitely noticed the coverage MSNBC gave the Democratic Convention, as compared to the forum where CNN allowed right-wing shills to state their talking points unanswered. The recent hard-hitting tactics your reporters are using to break through the official talking points of the political campaigns is also being noted.
Please don't assume that people want a left-wing propaganda network to counter FOX. We just want reporters to do their job and question the official proclamations. Stop letting these people get away with spreading their propaganda unanswered and you will have a loyal viewer."

9. I've been watching Olbermann all along.
I've recently started watching Hardball. It's about time somebody started asking for proof of the bogus claims being made by some of the wingnuts. Chris made Malkin look like the fool she is.
