"I can't vote for Obama because he's a Muslum..." WTF?
Edited on Tue May-13-08 09:48 AM by Blue_Roses
One of the reporters for GMA was covering the Hillary Clinton rally in W.Virginia and she asked a lady who was she voting for and the lady said, "I'm voting for Hillary, 'cause Obama is a Muslum." The reporter immediately replied, "no, haven't you heard that he's a Christian," and the lady said, "well, I heard about that, but I still think he's a Muslum."

I respect her decision to vote for who she wants to vote for, but sorry, when you can't even accept the truth, how can you expect someone NOT to see you as ignorant--or just downright stubborn.

This is what is giving West Virginia the label as backass backwards.

20. Except that's not any more acceptable than not voting for him
because he's black.

Who cares what religion someone is? Technically (and Constitutionally), our president isn't supposed to be favoring ANY religion (or none at all) over another one.

What part of the First Amendment don't people understand?

23. I can respect a person's decision alot better when they
have all the facts and base their choice on those said facts. Not when they refuse to stay ignorant. It is what it is, but they shouldn't then get upset when people make fun of them--which is what will happen when people see this clip.

I kind of feel sorry for her too, since she continues to stay stuck on stupid.

My 20 something assistant. Liberal, Independent, college student, likes McCain " because he reminds her of her grandfather". I am sure I can reach her before November. But it's a reminder to all that we don't have November in the bag. There are MANY uninformed voters out there who do not want to be informed. The types who change the subject anytime you try to bring up political or social topics. There are far more of them then there are of us.

Of course, to us, it makes no sense.

12. To many Muslims, Obama would be seen as an apostate.
He was born to a Muslim father; that makes him a Muslim. And to have converted to Christianity, that makes him an apostate (in the context of Islam).

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/12/opinion/12luttwak.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

As the son of the Muslim father, Senator Obama was born a Muslim under Muslim law as it is universally understood. It makes no difference that, as Senator Obama has written, his father said he renounced his religion. Likewise, under Muslim law based on the Koran his mother’s Christian background is irrelevant.

Of course, as most Americans understand it, Senator Obama is not a Muslim. He chose to become a Christian, and indeed has written convincingly to explain how he arrived at his choice and how important his Christian faith is to him.

His conversion, however, was a crime in Muslim eyes; it is “irtidad” or “ridda,” usually translated from the Arabic as “apostasy,” but with connotations of rebellion and treason. Indeed, it is the worst of all crimes that a Muslim can commit, worse than murder (which the victim’s family may choose to forgive).

With few exceptions, the jurists of all Sunni and Shiite schools prescribe execution for all adults who leave the faith not under duress; the recommended punishment is beheading at the hands of a cleric, although in recent years there have been both stonings and hangings. (Some may point to cases in which lesser punishments were ordered — as with some Egyptian intellectuals who have been punished for writings that were construed as apostasy — but those were really instances of supposed heresy, not explicitly declared apostasy as in Senator Obama’s case.)

22. That makes me laugh because it's not so widely practiced
in any shape, fashion or form in most Middle Eastern countries - and hasn't been in ages.

My ex is from Jordan and has relatives who converted to Christianity and NOTHING along these lines was even thought of.

BTW, the son or our union is Christian and no one's hauled him in front of some cleric tribunal for execution.

:eyes:

(BTW, I know you're just quoting a newspaper source, muddleofpud, but it's laughable that someone's told the NY Times this crap as if it were standard practice in this day and age)

15. Here's what I think Obama should say to that, should he ever feel the need to reply...
... to such ridiculousness (and against McCain, b/c you know Republicans are more likely to bring this up in the fall).

With tongue planted FIRMLY in cheek:

"Certain supporters of my opponent (not that he has anything to do with it, as far as I know) are circulating the claim that I am a radical Muslim. Now, I wonder about that, because on the one hand, they claim I am a radical Muslim. But on the other hand, they try to smear me because of statements made by the former pastor of my CHRISTIAN church! Now how can both of these things be true? Are you confused, too? It's enough to make my head spin. I don't know... perhaps Rev. Wright is actually not Christian. Perhaps he Osama bin Laden in disguise! Maybe THAT is why McCain and his friend Bush have not been able to find him!"

Gotten 100% of the vote
Hell even McSame is only getting 75% of his electorate, Repukes are still voting for Huckabee and Romney and Paul

That's why there is a West Virginia; that area wanted to remain a part of the Union while the remainder of the Commonwealth did secede. So, actually, it seceded from the Confederacy, not from the U.S.

I've told her 50 times now, Obama is NOT a Muslim. But she has a friend of a friend "lives right up the street from him," who has seen him going to a "Muslim" church every Sunday.
