Hillary supporters point to her supposed ability to face up to Republicans. Can someone please tell me exactly what they are referring to? The way I see it, at best she has achieved a stalemate. During Bill's presidency, he lost both Houses of Congress, was forced to spend the last few years of his presidency defending himself from impeachment instead of forwarding his agenda, and most of the significant legislation he got passed was heavily compromised because of the Republican controlled Congress. The most significant contribution that Hillary could have made was her Healthcare plan, which was a complete failure.
Hillary has been painted by the Right in a hugely negative light, and that reputation still stands today, as demonstrated by her high negatives. She has faced no significant Republican competition in becoming Senator of one of the bluest states in the country.
You could argue that Obama has been untested against the Republican attack machine, but that doesn't automatically mean that he won't be able to manage. So far, everything seems to roll off him. You can't say the same thing about all of the attacks against Hillary. Just because the attacks are already out there doesn't mean that they have gone away in the minds of some of the voters. I'd even argue that because they have been out there for so long, Hillary will have a more difficult time convincing voters that they aren't true.
