Give it to me straight on Edwards.
Is he done for or not?

I can't believe he hasn't won ONE single primary.

I've always been an Edwards supporter.

3. The numbers are set against him but he and Elizabeth still draw me.
Edited on Tue Jan-22-08 09:53 AM by Old Crusoe
I like the domestic proposals plenty but it's the human beings in them that I love.

He's staying in the race by all counts, something in the way he persevered up Mt. Kilimanjaro when Wade asked him to go and scale it with him. Steep trek, but worth the climb.

A lot of people without a voice in the mix hear their hearts and minds in Edwards' vision of a fair and just America.

I'm not a betting man, CatWoman. But I think the role Edwards will play in 2008 has yet to unfold.

Nice to see you this morning.

20. My credibility meter is giving him good scores. I like the steady and
determined effort and positive approach to the issues and his campaign.

I'm beginning to have a thought (not claiming) that Obama and Clinton are sparring to help the corporate networks keep the spotlight on THEM (and perhaps it's genuine sparring if Clinton expected to have the spotlight all to herself).

23. Hi, higher class. Not sure, but it felt genuine to me last night and on some other
occasions -- I think all these folks want the job. The Puke field is historically weak, almost spectacularly weak, so whoever wins our nom in Denver, well, I'm thinking that's tantamount to living in the White House next January.

I'd like to see a more civil tone among candidates' supporters on certain blogs and I'd like the media to do its job. Dodd, Biden, and Richardson are damned good men whose voices were silenced in this race in large part because the craven media refused to cover them. By degree, I feel Edwards, Kucinich, and Gravel are also not media favorites.

anti-chrst doesn't have to be a person. They are destroyers.

I remember in the old days when the papers and tv profiled all the candidates. There was more honor and respect. They reported. They didn't run the campaigns and treat the candidates so disrespectfully. There was balance because that was the job of journalism.

Though I'm not into the anti-christ stuff, I feel that the media is front and center of all the takeovers of our lives - by their strategies, including their mega 'voids'.

Their takeover of our minds and actions in collaboration with their partners has been a grand success. And too many are unaware that they are being manipulated, used, abused, and cheated.

5. Here's what I think:
I think anything can happen at any given moment given the unstable situation our domestic and global environments are in. Who knows what may happen as far as local/national/global events to affect the campaign(s) still?

These candidates are HUMAN. In this 24/7 coverage process, anything can still happen.

I support Edwards, but I also respect the primary process. I have tried to keep an open mind throughout thus far and intend to continue to do so. I despise the annointing of ANY candidate so early into the race, let alone before it even begins. This is done by prognosticating pundits, reporters, and media hacks of all kinds. Oh, and DUers with a crystall ball.

I called it then. It's always a money thing - it's why Gravel akso didn't win anything. MSM coverage - also, in great part - determined by their money expectations.

10. If he exceed expectations on Saturday- something he could easily
do- and picks up delegates, he's a factor going into 2/5. I don't think he can get the nomination, but he can influence things.

No chance at winning the nomination. Aside from lightning striking the stage or a meteor falling where Clinton and Obama stand.

"John Edwards got himself back in it — he showcased his style and his key issues, and is clearly back in the game. He showed he continues to deserve to share a debate stage with Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and voters here will likely give him another look after tonight."--http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

17. He did a few very right things last night
If he figures out what they were, (solutions, not rants), and runs some national ads with the positive Edwards we all loved in 2003, then maybe he can pull this out. But I don't think he's going to figure out what he did different so yeah I think he's done.

21. My prediction
First, there is no path to the nomination for him that does not involve an implosion of Obama or Clinton, and that would likely leave the party in shambles.

Second, the message is getting out there. As even the MSM has recently acknowledged, Edwards has been driving the debate. This has produced a screeching threat from the Chamber of Commerce and random pro-forma trash talk from the Rethug candidates. So we know this is working!

So Edwards continues to run, picks up some delegates, and that gives him some weight when it comes to putting together the platform. I regard that as a very good thing. Sending him some more bucks now for that reason.

In the meantime, the MSM is ready to make gender/race thingy the focus of this thing ... a trap our strategists must not fall into. That does nothing for the Edwards cause. Played properly by the corporatist mouth pieces this could narrow a general election advantage sufficiently to enable another election theft or Supreme Court Presidential Selection. But it should not be that hard to make it impossible to play that card well ... just hoping our strategists see that one coming and are ready to rock.

22. AP story today post-debate has two far apart sentences on him...
in my paper, so the story may have been cut. Regardless, the one sentence actually about him said he was "above the fray." Nothing on WHAT he said, who he said it or, or his passion.

BBC World Service...debate was about 2 candidates...no mention of Edwards.

We are just getting screwed....

24. I think his best-case scenario today is
to soldier on to the convention in Denver with 10- 15% of the delegates, with the expectation of a continued even split among the front-runners and the opportunity to play kingmaker (aka V-P).

29. Support Edwards - In the primaries, it's about getting delegates.
If more people got off the Obama v. Clinton bandwagon -- you know, the one that the media has created for us, then I think Edwards can garner some more delegates. If he does this, he gets more exposure.

It's about gaining delegates at this point.

Stick with Edwards, and encourage all your friends and family to do the same.

Folks, why throw your vote toward the two who have the most delegates this early in the game anyway? Edwards needs your vote. Obama and Clinton do not. Your vote isn't enough to really help Obama -- or hurt Clinton -- or vice versa.

But your vote and any more you can get for Edwards might help to keep Edwards in the game a little longer or even for the long haul.
