Everyone does realize what this means right?
Nevada and SC will not decide things.
That means Super Tuesday will not decide things.
but that also means there will not be enough delegates left to pick up in the later primaries that would equal a majority by the time we convene in Denver.

That means a brokered convention.
And heaven helps of us: that means eight more months of the catfighe we have seen over the past five days.

Everyone should keep in mind that we are going to have to pull it together after the nominee has been deided because there is only 10 weeks beteen the balloon drop in Denver and the General election. It seems very doubtful that pur two contenders would run as a ticket so there are going to be a lot of really pissed people when this is all over.

Advocate for you candidate with gusto, but nastiness is not virtuous and will wind up biting the party in the ass come October.

18. Step up to unite the party
He's not running, but wouldn't run away.

Stranger things have happened in the proverbial smoke filled rooms. If enough folks wouldn't switch on the 2nd or 3rd ballot, all bets are off.

28. If the delegates vote for Gore, I'm sitting out the election
We already had one man crowned king (Bush), I don't want another one.

I like all of our front running candidates. One of them deserves to be our nominee.

4. A good night for the Republicans
We all ought to be worried by tonight's results. McCain - the toughest candidate for Dems to beat has defeated Romney (the only serious Republican candidate Hilary defeats in the national) polls). The Democratic race may now go on for months with no clear winner - and the fight may bring down both Obama and Clinton through lots of negative campaigning.

I just don't think Hilary can defeat McCain or Giuliani (or Huckabee given his likeability) - Obama could but not if he gets wounded from a bitter battle!

8. Honestly - I Wouldn't Mind
I don't have a candidate this time around. When I go to the poll in the primary I'm going to punch in for whomever my belly likes that day.

If this goes to a brokered convention, the Democratic Party is going to have to take full responsibility for whatever candidate they put forward.

And it's about time they did.

14. I for one am delighted that Super Tuesday will be so important
As someone who lives in a state that usually has its presidential primary in June long after all the fighting is done and this year will have it instead on Feb 5 for the very first time, I am thrilled that my primary vote will finally mean something.

I will cast my vote for Edwards because after an examination of the positions of all three leading candidates I think Edwards is the most progressive and the least "corporate" of the trio. But I could vote for any of them easily if nominated.

15. I think its good for us if it goes through the summer
In 2004, with the nominee decided in March the Republicans had 8 months to attack Senator Kerry. If we keep them guessing, they wont be able to swiftboat our nominee.

...then the decision on whether to allow the Michigan and Florida delegations into the convention, and just who they'll vote for looms as the possible deciding factor.

But there would be some poetic justice if Florida delegates were the ones who united the Democratic Party convention behind the re-election of President Al Gore.

23. If Edwards can maintain 15-20% until the Convention...
He could determine who the next Presdient might be. Because Obama and Hillary would be very close but neither would have a majority. They would need Edwards 15-20% in order to be the nominee.

29. Not. A. Chance.
Unless Edwards makes a strong stand somewhere before Super Tuesday (say, winning outright in S.C.), he's finished, and will be perceived as such. Even if he doesn't pull out of the race, his vote totals will quickly fall off to the 2-5% range in future primaries.

27. democracy
It is called democracy.

The only people who lose are the big power players and the insiders.

The sooner the corporate money selects the Democratic candidate, the worse we do against the Republicans, not the better.

What is it that "we" - and who is this "we" anyway? - "pull together" when we skip over the part of democracy where we pull the people together and give each person a voice?

The way to end the catfights is for people here to stop seeing control over the Democratic party by the same old crowd as being more important than control over the government by Democrats.

Catfighting won't beat the Republicans, and that is what would begin if the nominee were known today. Solidarity will, and rallying the people to the traditional Democratic party principles will, and giving as many people as possible a voice in the process will. Those are precisely the opposite of loyalty and unity and rallying behind the front runner.

33. Because it's not a two way race
and because a candidate needs 50% of delegates to win the nomination.

If there will be 4367 delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, it means a candidate will need support from 2184 delegates to win the nomination.

If no candidate has the support of 2184 delegates, it will be a brokered convention.

For more information see The West Wing, Season 6, final episode.
