Aiding & Abetting Meglomania: Have the Democrats Handed Bush back his "Mojo"?
Edited on Sun Oct-21-07 03:19 PM by Totally Committed

Is it Time for Democrats to Start Panicking?

Unless they can re-establish some of their 2006 momentum, Democrats may find themselves going into to the next election tagged as the party that couldn't stop Bush when given a chance, or as the party that did not try hard enough.

Terence Samuel | October 19, 2007 | web only

Excerpt:

They can't stop the war or override the president's veto on S-CHIP. Harry Reid is less popular in his home state of Nevada than the president is in the country, and, if you listen to the pollsters and the pundits, the Democrats are about to choose one of the most divisive political figures in the Republic’s history to be their 2008 presidential nominee.

Which begs the question: When should Democrats begin to panic?

The answer is "not yet." But the truth is that unless they can re-establish some of their 2006 momentum, Democrats may find themselves going into the next election tagged as the party that couldn't stop Bush when given a chance, or as the party that did not try hard enough.

Democrats are pissed at their leaders .... For the base, anger is a greater motivator than depression.

Democrats should be particularly concerned by the storyline the White House is peddling this week, which claims, in effect, that the president has his “mojo” back and that the Congress is ineffective. After outlining a long list of things he thinks the Congress should be working on, the president on Tuesday declared, "It's little time left in the year, and Congress has little to show for all the time that has gone by." ....

.... Essentially, every near-miss the president has had in his confrontation with Hill Democrats is being advanced as evidence that he's still got it. Add to that the news that after 12 solid years in control, the GOP House leadership has unveiled plans to run against the 10-month Democratic "status quo" in Washington.

2. Sure, all the way to what? 24% give or take.

They've embarassed him on S CHIP and his FISA bill isn't getting traction.

He's then whined at a press conference that Congress is not doing what he wants and then said he's still relevant.

Some mojo. MKJ

5. Unfortunately, the people in the country have been made
to believe Bush won on SChip .

They are still struggling with Fisa. Let us see how
it really shakes out in the end.

6. also Free Flow of Information Act
they will override Bush's veto on that, or else Bush will back down and sign it.

4. I think I fear the "Bush backlash" more than anything else for the Dems.
Before leaving office, I just know that the Chimp is going to do, say, or get caught up in something stupid. What little approval he still has left at the time will nearly evaporate, and within seconds of the event, we'll start hearing, "I wonder why the Democrats in charge of Congress did nothing to stop this. They must be involved, too."

VIOLA! An excuse to feel good about voting Republican in 2008. They're all the same, so I might as well vote for the conservative party, since they can't be as bad as those liberals. :eyes:

And it will all be because of Pelosi's "impeachment is off the table" remark, as well as her inability to lead in the House. Reid has no control over the Senate, either, as it appears the GOP still is in charge of both Houses of Congress.

The Dems had the opportunity, and once again let the GOP rip it from their hands, while they did nothing to stop it.

Pathetic. :(

7. We used to call this "ripping defeat from the jaws of victory" :
"The Dems had the opportunity, and once again let the GOP rip it from their hands, while they did nothing to stop it."

They're good at that!

8. The harder he fights back, the better.
It actually means the Democrats are doing the right thing.

Perhaps your avatar should read: Bush, Clinton, Bush, Rodham, Bush. :-) MKJ

9. The only people who buy that are inside the beltway
No one is buying that BS. DC is basically showing itself to be a company town and that company is in the prowrestling business.

16. Yeah, all evidence points to CW trial balloon
Congress' low approval ratings, I am persuaded, are a function of two things: GOP haters, and Democratic disgust with its inability to even pick a fight, let alone win one. But those two functions hardly equate to any bump for the Idiot Bush.
