National media blacking out Edwards
I checked msnbc.com, cnn.com and caught as much as possible of the evening news and nothing about the endoresments...anywhere. Nothing. What gives?

I'd like to know from Clinton and Obama supporters why they think this is the case?

OR, if they can find the media reporting this without having to dig for 15 minutes please post in this thread. Maybe I'm just stupid...or maybe I'm just tired.

1. To the MSM channels, they are looking for easy battles Clinton vs Obama

To them Mainstream media, Edwards is just a nuisance. Rupert Murdoch will probably find a way of squishing him.

2. I'm not a Clinton or Obama supporter but I've had the same frustration with
Biden. Granted, he's far behind the others, but there have definitely been some newsworthy events and endorsements which go unreported.

My take on the Biden Blackout, as it were, is that the media are just focusing on and believing the polls (which is ludicrous beyond belief) and assuming that interest is waning in Edwards (again, ludicrous). They will catch more readers with headlines featuring Obama or Clinton.

Just my opinion, but I can't think of any other reasons, can you?

8. Well
Well I have no idea...but it is starting to tick me off. It becomes a cycle and one has to wonder: Are they getting coverage because of good poll numbers...or are they getting good poll numbers because the national media are pretty much in love with anything that has to do with Clinton and Obama? Obama talks to 6 people "around the table" or whatever and it is streamed live on TV. Edwards can't even get a passing word on the bottom left corner of the same site.

19. I understand your frustration - as I said, that's been our complaint with Biden
coverage all along. And it is the catch 22 of polls? media? polls? media? We don't understand it either, but just know, we understand! Hope it turns around for Edwards. And I'll tell you what we keep telling ourselves - there's still a long time...

PLUS Edwards has gotten some pretty hefty and important endorsements over the past few days -- that may well show up in the primaries even if they don't show up in the media. Hang in there!!

29. Hey, it worked for Bush twice. Fox said he won, CNN chimed in, and there you have it.
No need for counting votes. waste of time.

3. Edwards? Has Matt Lauer interviewed him? There ya go.
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 09:20 PM by BleedingHeartPatriot
Russert, which I just recalled, played "gotcha" with him on Press The Meat.

Olbermann, Matthews, Maher don't count, apparently.

P.S. Kucincich, Dodd, Richardson, Biden...relegated to the furthest back pages.

Plus, non-Rudy, non-Fred R candidates are suffering the same fate.

5. I think you may be right... I wonder if it is on purpose by
the powers that be, or if it's just because Obama and Clinton are so HOT right now.

11. Maybe
They are so hot because they basically get favorable national media coverage(in general) for the last 6 months. Could explain some of it...besides what makes Obama "hot" right now? Not his poll numbers on the state level are that much better then Edwards. Yes, he has raised a decent amount of money...big deal...I wish oprah would something for Edwards also...and I'm not trying to take anything away from the grassroots aspect of his fund raising.

10. John Edwards is my candidate, I love that man
The POS blacked Edwards out in 2004, I remember....and Wesley Clark, neither of them got a fair shake of the dice in 2004 from the media.

I think Edwards is the most electable of the bunch as well and he'd be a great President too.

12. Yep!
MSM, pundits and Repubs have decided for the Democrats!
Edwards and Obama are considered bit players in the script that has been written for the 08 election!
I say ignore and hang tough, no votes have been counted, I truly believe that the Edwards and Obama camps have some surprises up their sleeves!
I am a committed Obama supporter, but admire the hard work the Edwards have put into Iowa and refuse to believe they will not prevail.
It's always darkest before dawn...just saying!

16. Yes, he's down in the polls so they say
Of course they say Bush won too, so what do I know.

This endorsemnent is mild. But even more mild is the McCain one.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2007-10-14-environmental-endorsements_N.htm

Edwards won the backing of Friends of the Earth Action, the San Francisco-based political arm of Friends of the Earth. Republicans for Environmental Protection endorsed McCain for the second time. The group also backed his 2000 campaign.

Republicans for Environmental Protection heh? What's the member count on that-seven? Bwahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 10:15 PM by maximusveritas
The 3rd place candidate got some endorsements from a few local unions. Maybe that's significant to those really interested in politics, but for the general audience, it holds no interest whatsoever. So why would they put it on their main page? They'll put it on the political pages where it belongs.

Or you can believe some delusional conspiracy theories. Whatever you prefer I guess.

23. My local paper had articles about Rudy and Hillary on the front page today.
They didn't even do anything newsworthy.

The conclusion I draw: "I guess that's who they want to see run in the general election."

25. Do you really think getting an endorsement is news to the general public when 2 of 3 probably don't
who Edwards is. When only 1 in 4 people will vote in the primary, you expect you much.

26. There was reporting that I saw
on CNN this afternoon with Wolf.

MSNBC has this at First Read:
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2007/10/15/411066.aspx

CNN:
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/10/15/edwards-obama-pick-up-seiu-endorsements/

Granted, it was not splashing the headlines, but it was reported.

Having said that, I do agree that Edwards is getting the short-shrift (sp?)
