Goodyear Tires discriminated against Mrs. Ledbetter years ago resulting in her losing almost $15,000 a year compared to male employees, for many years. She took her case to court and last week the Supreme Court eventually rejected her claims of discrimination on a technicality covering up Republican opposition to basic fairness at the workplace for men and women to get paid equally for working at the same class of job.
The Paycheck Fairness Act (H.R. 1338 and S.766) was introduced March 6, 2007 by Sen. Hillary Clinton and Rep. Rosa DeLauro to strengthen the Equal Pay Act of 1963. The bill expands damages under the Equal Pay Act and amends its very broad fourth affirmative defense. In addition, the Paycheck Fairness Act calls for a study of data collected by the EEOC and proposes voluntary guidelines to show employers how to evaluate jobs with the goal of eliminating unfair disparities.
I ask people to contact The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (Goodyear) - Akron, Ohio at
(330) 796-2121
and demand that the CEO and Chairman of the board Robert J Keegan speak to John Boehner and Mitch McConnell and get them to cooperate in passage of HR 1338 and S 766 and then get it signed by GW Bush and until this happens you and your friends will not buy any Goodyear tires or other products manufactured by The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.
Then call your representative and senators to get this passed into law.
