Here's one congressional Republican reacting to
the news that, with Democrats back in charge, Congress will have a longer working week than had been the case under GOP leadership (late Tuesday through Thursday afternoon):
"Keeping us up here eats away at families," said Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), who typically flies home on Thursdays and returns to Washington on Tuesdays. "Marriages suffer. The Democrats could care less about families - that's what this says."
No, Jack, it says that those serving the people should be in Washington
to work, not treat our business like a hobby. It also says that you have absolutely
zero perspective on what
real work is all about. You want to complain about having to put in the time, Jack? Time that rewards you rather generously, I might add.
Tell it to our men and women serving in Iraq. I'm sure
they'd appreciate your struggle. At least the ones who are still with us. As for
the others, well, maybe their families would appreciate your hardship. Oh, and don't come whining to us about
personal responsibility, Jack. You made a choice to seek elective office, knowing full well what that meant. If you don't like it, if you can't handle it, then I'm sure Georgia voters can find someone who can.
