Is our invasion and occupation of Iraq a just war?
Yes or no?

If your answer is 'no' what is the status of those fighting against the forces that invaded Iraq? Are they fighting for a just cause?

1. No
Yes they are, just as we would if we were invaded.

2. no
As for the Iraqi resistance - all I can say is that our hamfisted actions continue to create more of them.

4. No

The resistance are fighting a just war. The terrorists (who blow up people in market squares) are not.

6. You aren't serious, I hope!?? There is nothing just in Bush's war.
Fighting to defend your country against an invading force is absolutely a just cause. That doesn't mean the tactics used are always excusable, but resistance is justified.

9. No. It is an abuse of power to use the troops in this way.

11. Depends on the outcome
As with all wars, this war can only be justified by its end. So far, we don't know what that looks like. Personally, I'm still hopeful that a different President can pull some good out of this.

12. No and no
Most of the insurgents are not like, say, the IRA. Half of these guys are theocrats and they're killing EVERYONE!!! Read the fuck up. Please.

13. of course not . . . in the 21st century, there are no just wars . . .
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 01:51 AM by OneBlueSky
technology that allows nations to obliterate city blocks with weapons fired from hundreds of miles away and controlled on a video game console can NEVER be just . . . nor can wars that involve depleted uranium weapons, cluster bombs, nuclear bunker busters -- or whatever the next great leap in the technology of killing and destroying will be . . .

"just war" is an oxymoron . . . just as humankind got together and banned slavery, so we can get together to ban war . . . and we must . . .

yeah, slavery still exists . . . and banning war won't end it -- at least not right away . . . but just expressing the intention to end war will give humankind a worthy goal to work toward, and one that most everyone can agreed to . . .

the first and necessary step to ending war is declaring that we WANT to end war . . . and war will never end unless and until we, as humans, collectively express our intention to end it . . .

with the weaponry available today, it's the only course of action that makes any sense whatsoever . . .
