N.Y democratic state comptroller issues apology after Bush remarks
Alan Hevesi, the New York state comptroller, has profusely apologized after introducing Chuck Schumer to the people in attendance in this manner.

"I give you a man, who, how do I put this diplomatically, who would put a bullet between the presidents eyes if he could get away with it. I give you the toughest Senator, the best representative, a great, great member of Congress. Chuck Schumer"

For his part, Schumer said he was happy with the apology, but Republicans quickly jumped on the quote saying it wasn't a joke if you want to kill the president.

1. I doubt DAS GOP will gain much traction out of this one.

2. I think he meant to say " place a bullet between his eyes and
hold it there with some unused duct tape(that was going a little stale after being in his anti chemical attack emergency kit) just so the president could contemplate those that had actually had the bullets pierce the area between their eyes or other body parts. Hows that for spin?

5. Hevesi is a veteran party... how do I put this diplomatically...
... *hack*. A monument to the mediocrity of the NY State Dem Party.

These guys tend to follow the script well, win elections but are sorely lacking in political guts and its antecedent.... wisdom. They also tend not to be particularly bright.

What in the name of JC is he talking about?

8. Well, this is from the article in the OP:

"I am apologizing as abjectly as I can. There is no excuse for it. It was beyond dumb."

Hevesi, a longtime professor of government and politics at Queens College before becoming comptroller, also referred to his comments as "remarkably stupid" and "incredibly moronic."

"I do speak extemporaneously," he said. "And I've never said anything like this."

That's "remarkably stupid", "incredibly moronic" and "beyond dumb". This goes to the "they tend to not be particularly bright" part of my post.

The "veteran party hack" part: he's been around since the Liz Holtzman era ( veteran), and was routinely backed by the *notoriously* corrupt Queens County Dem Party in city and state races ( party hack) including two efforts against Holtzman, the second successfully.

As far as the state party being a breeding ground of mediocrity: that's a piece of cake: it convened this week and defeated a resolution calling for an end to the war in Iraq.

10. Well basically you've said nothing
He's been around a while. Well there you go.....he's a HACK.

I'll agree with you tho, the New York State party is too centrist and too insidery and too DLC.

7. Maybe Hevesi will be invited to go bird hunting with Cheney.

9. The man knows how to apologize ...
... total responsibility with no equivocation. He probably gained votes by both actions.

Good for him.
