If we were to March on July 4th and say we are against the WAR, with anger and Down With Bush Signs, IMO, we are going to get Swift Boated.

Just about everyone I know wants the 4th of July to be a family Day and relaxing and fun.
They don't want to see some mad folks with signs and cops going crazy and arresting people, and believe me, Georgie would have us all arrested.

Recall how they jumped all over the Hispanic Marchers because they had "the nerve" to carry the Mexican Flag too?

The Hispanic Marchers beat them at their own game 3 days later, they were waving the American flags all over the place!

They also were told, in most cities that I could tell, to wear WHITE. So, when you looked at the crowds, you got the feeling of PEACEFUL. That was, IMO, an excellent strategy.

I think the best way to MAKE THE NEWS and RALLY ALL Americans behind the effort, is to have a PEACEFUL, BEAUTIFUL MARCH all over America!

A MARCH that is as AMERICAN AS APPLE PIE.

Bring the adorable kids, dress everyone in the family in RED, WHITE and BLUE.

Even FIDO can have on a little r/w/b striped hat.

Make it a HAPPY MARCH , a PEACEFUL March.

Put a sign on your car. Organize a peaceful, friendly, up-beat march. Call a radio station or local tv. Let someone know what you are doing that will help get the message out that it's happening. But MOST important: Spread the news! We have to have numbers to make this effective. Although, you know you have a few republican neighbors who are scratching their heads saying "WHAT was I thinking?"

Print stickers at work "Democrats of America to the Rescue".
Stick them on bathroom stalls, parking meters, gas station tanks
Use the removable ones so you don't cause any trouble whatsoever. Do this in your OWN community!

We can march en masse but we can also LIVE what we believe and make it happen!

There are large fireworks displays kind of a carnival atmosphere. The march could end there late in the afternoon for the fireworks. Thousands of impeach bush signs comingled with the thousands of people who are already there.

Marches are important for solidarity and morale, but they are ignored by the media and the arrogant powers that be, who have no real sense of obligation to the people. ("Hey Laura look at the protestors...I must be doin somethin' right, heh heh heh!)" The reason the immigrant marches have gotten attention is that it is led by Mexican 'illegals' who have suddenly come out --en masse--into the light of day. They have shown their numbers, their solidarity, and is impressive in and of itself. Cindy's vigil in Crawford was a different kind of protest too, which worked to focus on what's actually going on in Iraq. It was effective in that it was "real" and from the heart, in a world where everything is viewed on a screen. But other big marches don't even get media coverage.

It's important to ask "What really is the goal?" of such events now. How about a new type of July 4 rallying of the people--around many issues, but with Bringing Back Democracy as the central theme. Could we do a kind of twist on the Medieval Fair--after all these are the new Dark Ages? Invite political and social and election reform groups to educate. Make it cultural. Have speakers, music, poets, artists, multi-cultural groups --all dealing with the difficult issues of these times. Get people talking, interacting. Have opportunies for regular people to get involved, to express, to recharge --but primarily, to FOCUS on the serious issues. (I will be happy to bring my chickenwire statue of Chimpy, to drag through the streets on a cart like in Midieval religious celebrations, and then topple it while people hit it with their shoes). In my fantasies Democracy Day would happen every year, continuing long after Chimpy and co. are routed out. We have a lot of work to do.

I am with you in spirit. I jyst wonder if there's a way to add a new dimension to protests--people are so starved for the real, the creative, and the Positive.

but I was thinking more and more about blue flu... in the past when employees could not go on strike they called in sick...there were no reprisals because they could not prove it was done on purpose. Bush is backed by corporate money, if everyone calls in sick, say 3 days a month, the companies cannot retaliate, no one gets fired, abused or arrested.
We stay home safe and send a message via conyers or feingold, someone who is behind us and states that the middle class wants bush impeached. Then the media cannot ignore the slow down of corporations performance and our cries are finally noticed.

Another way of hassling these corporate entities is to have a day of slow down..... this might even be effective.

Our power is still our workforce, between outsourcing, in-sourcing and illegals, we will not even have this power for long. lets use this power now while we still have it. I am new here, I would like to put this on the discussion threads but I do not know how. Please tell me how to do it or if you know how just put this idea up.
