Looks like the GOP and the pukes are getting ready to frame the Dems in the 2006 selections by using the Patriot Act renewal and the vote for the war.
Easy to do when there is no context. And that's our Job - to provide context.
So, here's the first refuting:
"Yeah but, voted for the war!"
No - they didn't because Shrub said this:
"Mr. President--in October 2002 you said the Iraq resolution was a vote for peace. Now you're saying it was a vote for war. Which was it?"
He's the second one:
"Yeah but, voted to weaken our ability to protect our country by voting against the modified patriot act!"
Except, the Patriot Act doesn't work - consider:
We had gathered just about all the details of the plot to attack us on 9/11 before 9/11. And we did that without the benefit of any of the provisions of the Patriot Act. Think about it -- what have we learned about 9/11 since the week of the attacks? Plenty -- about the information our government ignored .
Have we tried and convicted a single terrorist using the swell new powers of the Patriot Act? We have not. (You don't really think those six guys playing paintball in Ithaca really count, do you?) Quite to the contrary, we have actively interfered in the prosecutions of terrorists in nations that until recently were among our staunchest allies. I don't think we've even leaned on any librarians yet...
So what goddam good is the Patriot Act, when all is said and done?
Keep em coming!
