Fact or Rumor: "Has US really taken military into Syria?"
"As I suspected six months ago, U.S. military and Bush administration civilian officials confirmed last week that U.S. forces have invaded Syria and engaged in combat with Syrian forces.

Stacy Innerst, Post-Gazette

An unknown number of Syrians are acknowledged to have been killed; the number of Americans -- if any -- who have died in Syria so far has not yet been revealed by the U.S. sources, who by the way insist on remaining faceless and nameless.

The parallel with the Vietnam War, where a Nixon administration deeply involved in a losing war expanded the conflict -- fruitlessly in the event -- to neighboring Cambodia, is obvious. The end result was not changed in Vietnam; Cambodia itself was plunged into dangerous chaos, which climaxed in the killing fields, where an estimated 1 million Cambodians died as a result of internal conflict.

On the U.S. side, no declaration of war preceded the invasion of Syria, in spite of the requirements of the War Powers Act of 1973. There is no indication that the Congress was involved in the decision to go in. If members were briefed, none of them have chosen to share that important information with the American people. Presumably, the Bush administration’s intention is simply to add any casualties of the Syrian conflict to those of the war in Iraq, which now stand at more than 1,970. The financial cost of expanding the war to Syria would also presumably be added to the cost of the Iraq war, now estimated at $201 billion."

Just what we need - more Bush wasted war billions and military dead for negative security gains.

But, oh! Bush and his Cabal get to rush to the bank with more oil $$$!

6. That's the same story! Or the same paper at least.
I read it on DU earlier and the words looked the same. Not confirmation, but rather, repetition.

5. This doesn't smell right.
If this were true...

1. Syria would be screaming its head off.
2. Other media would be reporting it.

I'll wait for somebody else to pick it up before I believe this.

7. Ok...
A lot of world (and even US!) media covered this story;

U.S. forces have crossed border to engage Assad’s troops, sources say
http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/nationworld/story/5256373p-4771557c.html

Iraq battles are seen spilling into Syria

But other officials say that as American efforts to cut off the flow of fighters have intensified, those operations have spilled over the border, sometimes by accident, sometimes by design.

http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/10/14/news/syria.php

In the summer firefight (with US troops), several Syrian troops were killed, leading to a protest from the Syrian government to the U.S. Embassy in Damascus, according to U.S. and Syrian officials.

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/world/3397315

Increasingly, officials say, Syria is to the Iraq war what Cambodia was in the Vietnam War: a sanctuary for fighters, money and supplies to flow over the border and, ultimately, a place for a shadow struggle.

Some other current and former officials suggest that there already have been initial intelligence gathering operations by small clandestine Special Operations units inside Syria.

16. Jesus. This cannot be good news.
If Syria is not cooperating with this, this could be construed as an attack on another sovereign nation. The way I see it, Congress has not authorized this kind of adventure. I need to read up on this. Thanks for the links.

TreasonGate is important but shouldn't keep
press from reporting U.S. attacks on other countries.

11. Well, here's some food for thought....
"Pushed by senators from both parties to define the limits of U.S. involvement in Iraq and the Middle East, Dr. Rice also declined to rule out the use of military force in Iran or Syria, although she said the administration prefers diplomacy.

"I don't think the president ever takes any of his options off the table concerning anything to do with military force," Dr. Rice said."

"NEW YORK (AFP) - The United States recently debated launching military strikes inside Syria against camps used by insurgents operating in neighboring Iraq, a US magazine reported.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice successfully opposed the idea at a meeting of senior American officials held on October 1, Newsweek reported, citing unnamed US government sources."

"The United States said on Wednesday that Syria needs to change its behavior and ease concerns of its support for terrorist organizations.

"Syria needs to change its behavior. It is trending in the wrong direction from the rest of the Middle East," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said at a briefing.

"Syria's neighbors are concerned about the actions that it has taken in a number of regards. They're concerned about foreign fighters transiting through Syria and going into Iraq to carry out attacks on innocent civilians or coalition forces or Iraqi forces, " McClellan said."

"Israel predicted yesterday that America would impose fresh sanctions on Syria in an attempt to overthrow President Bashar al-Assad.

Shaul Mofaz, the defence minister, said he believed sanctions would follow publication of a United Nations report expected to implicate senior Syrian officials in the murder of Rafik al-Hariri, the former Lebanese prime minister.

"I won't be surprised if Syria gets a red card," Mr Mofaz told Israel radio. " will take actions against Syria, beginning with economic sanctions and moving on to others, that will make it clear to the Syrians that their policies do not comply with UN decisions, the US's new world order or the prohibition of sovereign states to support terrorism."

On Saturday, President George W Bush and his national security council are to discuss America's options on Syria, ranging from tightening existing limited sanctions to military action."

15. O'Reilly calls to "Take...life" of Syria's Bashar al-Assad
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 12:08 AM by BillORightsMan
This is "old news" I guess, but this quote was taken directly from the faux news transcript 10-3-2005 during an interview with Wes Clark...

O'REILLY: North Korea proves that, although we don't know if North Korea is going to do what they say they're going to do. So it's a dangerous world.

But look, I'm not opposed to having conversations with Syria and Iran to try to help us out over there, but I don't — Syria, I think you can do it because as you said, you know, it's Bashar's life. I mean, we could take his life and we should take his life if he doesn't help us out. Iran is a different nut.

:yoiks:I guess WW III is on, courtesy the NWO and the military-industrial-complex.

18. I can't find any proof of it, but I agree with you .......
....... our guys have been in Syria. There have been a few 'rogue' reports of fighting along that border for months now.

But of course, we the people have no right to know the truth.
