NY Post: Secret (illegal) tapes of Pataki: "Shocking Peek Behind Scenes"
ALBANY — Someone secretly recorded private telephone calls to Gov. Pataki, his wife, Libby, then-Sen. Alfonse D'Amato and others — capturing sensitive personal and political conversations, tapes obtained by The Post reveal.

The existence of the mystery tapes demonstrates there was a major security breach involving the governor and some of his most important associates.

It is illegal in New York to record a conversation between two people if neither one is aware of it.

The extraordinary tapes include lengthy discussions of patronage hiring, obscenity-laced tirades, Mrs. Pataki's extensive complaints about her schedule as first lady, and more mundane matters like preparations for Pataki to attend a funeral.
....
The recordings, which are about 45 minutes long and appear to have been transferred to the single cassette received by The Post, came to the paper from an anonymous source.

.....DETAILS.....

1. Seems like an inside hatchet job.
As the NY Post is the print equivalent of FAUX News, this sends an interesting signal.

With Pataki's numbers in the toilet, the Repub powers that be seem to have the long knives out for him, and don't want him as the nominee standing for re-election against Eliot Spitzer....

4. He already said he isn't running again
The fool wants to run for the nomination for President in '08. They could be not too subtly telling him not to even try. Former Gov. Weld of MA, now a NY resident, is said to be in the run against Spitzer.

9. guv of ny
pataki has already said he will not run for another term. former mass guv Weld has made noise that he wants to run for govenor of ny. considering his stances on abortion, gay rights and marriage, the conservative party (which usually backs the republican candidate and no republican has won statewide office without its support since jacob javits back in 1974)

6. It's not like I'm not photogenic?
That's the quote from Mrs. Pataki as he complained about not getting her picture in the paper enough, especially compared to Mrs. Guilliani.

8. C-SPAN also read snips of what was recorded this a.m.,
which surprised me. It was almost like they were gossiping; the tape made Mrs. Pataki sound reallllly shallow.
