And some of you wonder how Hackett could have lost...
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 06:25 AM by theHandpuppet
... or could the Cincy area truly be SO red when the rural counties voted blue?

Well, here's a sampling of how it works in Cincinnati, as per today's Editorial in the Cincinnati Enquirer:

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050807/COL05/508070341/1004

Heartbroken families reveal honor, sacrifice

By Peter Bronson
Enquirer staff writer

"Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have made a difference to the world. But the Marines don't have that problem."

President Ronald Reagan may not have originated that line in 1985, but it became his quote, tattooed to the Marine Corps like "Semper Fi" and the "EGA" eagle, globe and anchor.

<snipping>

As the rest of us wrestled with our feelings, those heartbroken families set an example. They said their sons were honored to defend their country and fight for freedom. They believe in the cause. So should we. Anything less dishonors their sacrifice.

How ironic that the same week those parents stood strong in the eye of the storm, nearly half of the Second District was ready to wave the white flag and vote for a candidate who wants to pull out of Iraq.

Yes, as you can see, never an opportunity lost to insult both the Dem candidate -- an Iraq war veteran himself -- and the "Rural Four" as unpatriotic, even using the deaths of these young soldiers to bang the drum for Bush and his Congressional minions.

Yes, some of you wondered. I never did.

1. Where did Paul Hackett call for "pulling out of Iraq"?
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 06:26 AM by bluestateguy
I must have missed that part because he has already said that he plans to go back to Iraq next year, while this peckerhead columnist continues serving in the 101st Fighting Keyboardist Regiment.

...never an opportunity missed to resurrect the name of Ronald Reagan.

3. Hackett.........
was never for pulling out of Iraq, to the dismay of many Progressives, so how can this buffoon even say that? :wtf: Hackett promised to finish the job and that witch of a bitch Schmidt, scandals and all, won an election that she had bo business even being in.
People always ask, "who ARE these 40% who STILL support bush and his failed policies"? They're in Cincinnati and a hundred other places like it, mindless and clueless as ever. Determined to "stay the course" when their sons and daughters have already died because they're under the impression that if we pull out, it will all have been in vain. THE ENTIRE WAR IS IN VAIN! IT WAS STARTED OVER VANITY, BUSH'S VANITY! Until people like these start to wake up, and I seriously doubt they EVER will, the Cons will continue to control the debate about the course America should take.

5. Clermont County
I have a problem wit the 52% who voted for Schmidt. How could anyone vote for her? I think Bronsen is nuts.

6. in every 'coup' they 1st seize the news/info purveyors
it's funny to see people act surprised that the gopig crooks continue to use the news to promote their views ...
the mass newsmedia are criminal run operations, even if they're only guilty of shrugging shoulders when the rapist/murderers do their thing nearby.....
everybody in newsmedia management who has signing authority must be removed from jobs, tried and, hopefully, eventually we get to kill them :)
that's tens of thousands of men.
go bush!

7. My e-mail to Bronson
Dear Peter,
It is so obvious that you need to listen to Paul Hackett.

"Everybody in this state and this nation has to put down the beer and the remote control and realize what is going on in Iraq every day," said Paul Hackett

Put down your beer, your remote, your keyboard and do some honest research, then write another editorial.

Ohio is weeping for the children we have lost and not all parents feel the sacrifice was worth it, and my heart breaks for the Bells and all the others. May all our children come home soon and this unjust war end for us and for the innocent Iraqi children who are also dying.

8. Just sent Bronson an e-mail
about how he denigrates Hackett. Explained to Bronson that if you didn't and aren't over in Iraq fighting, you have absolutely no room to criticize those who have risked their lives for a war you support. My last line: During Vietnam, we called people like you cowards. I signed it with my military title just to get the point across.

10. I wonder how many other Iraqi vets who oppose this war...
Edited on Sun Aug-07-05 08:28 AM by theHandpuppet
.. woke up today to find themselves being trashed in the Enquirer's editorial pages? How about those who opposed the war and yet died in Iraq, or the families who have actually lost loved ones and dare to question the war? Does Bronson consider them traitors, too?

I think letters from veterans such as yourself should make idiots like Bronson hang their heads in shame -- not that he ever would. He's the Enquirer's resident RW hatemonger.
