BIG!! Minneapolis News station has video of explosives at Al QaQaa
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 08:12 AM by Oreo
Amazing... our channel 5 is about to make worldwide news. One of their embedded reporters was there after April 10th and had video of a large number explosives with Al Qua Quaa on the labels.

http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S3723.html?cat=1

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crew in Iraq shortly after the fall of Saddam Hussein was in the area where tons of explosives disappeared.

The missing explosives are now an issue in the presidential debate. Democratic candidate John Kerry is accusing President Bush of not securing the site they allegedly disappeared from. President Bush says no one knows if the ammunition was taken before or after the fall of Baghdad on April 9, 2003 when coalition troops moved in to the area.

Using GPS technology and talking with members of the 101st Airborne 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS determined our crew embedded with them may have been on the southern edge of the Al Qaqaa installation, where that ammunition disappeared. Our crew was based just south of Al Qaqaa. On April 18, 2003 they drove two or three miles north into what is believed to be that area.

During that trip, members of the 101st Airborne Division showed the 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS crew bunker after bunker of material labelled explosives. Usually it took just the snap of a bolt cutter to get in and see the material identified by the 101st as detonation cords.
"We can stick it in those and make some good bombs." a soldier told our crew.

48. It was very stupid to lie about this.
The fairy tale about Russian commandos was particularly lame. The Bush administration is unprecedented in its failure to accept responsibility for its actions. It is utterly corrupt, and to have an oaf like Bush ass our President is an indictment of our society. I hope this incident helps to expose them as the criminals they are, but anyone who hasn't figured it out already is probably brainwashed or not voting.

11. Excellent,
For most people a story isn't real or true, until they see videos and pics.

Considering the fact that al QaQaa was one of Saddam's main weapons sites and that we suspected he was developing WMD's there, you would think the troops would have been on that place like flies on shit. This just proves that this whole blunder had nothing to do with WMD's and/or al Qaeda.

20. This is startling! Especially considering that Channel 5 is
owned and operated by the very conservative Hubbard family. The KSTP organization brought Rush Limbaugh to town both literally and figuratively. They certainly support Republican candidates.

On the other hand, the Hubbards are a family owned organization. They may still value the importance of a free press. If nothing else, they may value the attention that they will get locally, which may transition into increased viewership and higher ratings.

I'm not doubting the veracity of the report but I would like to know why the printing on the side of the boxes would be in English and not Arabic. Did we sell the stuff to them to begin with? Also, know that is an area the freepers will try and jump on to "disprove" the report.

102. Wag the dog
If the article presented in Minnesota is accurate, we have a bigger issue than incompetence on our hands. For this to not be at least guarded, let alone left with the door hanging open, this was intentional. If you think it over, where would there be a better place to get explosives than a free hand-out? I'll bet that this was done to feed an "insurgent" force just to keep the troops over there and to prolong the war on terror. You can't but wonder why this was close but not adjacent to any coalition force encampment during troop movement in the region. Wouldn't it be just like a Reagan cluster-fuck if we got caught funding BOTH sides of this little war just for an excuse to be in power? More CIA bullshit, and a stock definition of treason. When will the people of this country realize that some civil disobedience is the only thing separating our nation from the former Soviet Union or Iraq? Where are the next Woodworth and Bernstein? Where are riots or protests in major cities? How subjugated are we? If it is proven this was all intentional, this puts the Iran-Contra scandal to shame.

This is stuff we sent them directly.

I recall reading somewhere we were drop shipping this stuff directly to AL QaQaa during the war with Iran..

Perhaps the most surprising testimony taken by the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs was that given in the earlier 1992 hearings on the matter of U.S. assistance to the Iraqi ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs. Gary Milhollin, Director of the Wisconsin Project on Nuclear Arms Control, testified that U.S. companies were being licensed by the Commerce Department to ship such items directly to the Al-Qaqaa and Badr facilities, which the Pentagon had formally identified as part of the Iraqi nuclear weapons production program, and to Salah al Din, known to be the center of its ballistic missile development efforts.

This blows their whole "the Russians did it".....and " there was only 3 tons " right out of the friggin water!!!!!

Note:

1. "Senior US Official in Washington" knew the white powder tested was HMX and RDX but not Bio-weapons - so thats okay then right?

2. "thousands of 2inch by 5inch boxes" of this stuff there on April 3rd 2003.

3. Confirmed by US Colonel in 3rd ID and Senior Washington Official.

4. Faux's Carl Cameron helped on this story - perhaps he can enlighten us further on who the US offical was?? (dont hold your breath)

Coalition Discovers Suspicious Sites Near Baghdad
Friday, April 04, 2003

BACKGROUND

NEAR BAGHDAD, Iraq — U.S. troops on Friday found thousands of boxes of white powder, nerve agent antidote, unidentified liquid and Arabic documents on how to engage in chemical warfare, U.S. military officials said.

Forces made the discovery at an industrial site south of Baghdad.

Reuters reported that they also found a second site containing vials of unidentified liquid and white powder. A U.S. officer said the site was close to the other plant, at the Latifiyah industrial complex, about 25 miles south of Baghdad, where soldiers had found the other vials and manuals.

"It is clearly a suspicious site," Col. John Peabody, engineer brigade commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said of the first site.

Also discovered was atropine, used to counter the effects of exposure to chemical agents, and 2-Pam chloride, which is used in combination with atropine in case of chemical attack.

But a senior U.S. official in Washington who is familiar with initial testing said the materials at the first site were believed to be explosives.

"Initial reports are that the material is probably just explosives, but we're still going through the place," the official said.

The plant itself was shown on U.S. military maps as including underground storage facilities, Reuters reported. Some contained liquid, some powder. The books and manuals were in a safe, Captain Kevin Jackson told Reuters near Baghdad.

Peabody said troops found thousands of 2-inch by 5-inch boxes, each containing three vials of white powder, together with documents written in Arabic that dealt with how to engage in chemical warfare.

The facility had been identified by the International Atomic Energy Agency as a suspected chemical, biological and nuclear weapons site. U.N. inspectors visited the plant at least a dozen times, including as recently as Feb. 18.

The facility is part of a larger complex known as the Latifiyah Explosives and Ammunition Plant al Qa Qaa.

<snip>

During the 1991 Gulf War, U.S. jets bombed the Latifiyah plant.

Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahaf said Friday Iraq had no plans to use chemical or biological weapons against invading coalition despite a threat in the same breath to use "non-conventional" methods.

"But we will conduct a kind of martyrdom operations," he said during a press conference.

<snip>

Fox News' Liza Porteus, Carl Cameron and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

ABC Affiliate KSTP of Minnesota has literally uncovered explosive footage, the missing Al Qaqaa explosives. What is different about KSTP's story is that the video was taken on April 18, 2003. This is nine days after the fall of Baghdad and two weeks after the April 4, 2003 Fox News report that had the explosives in Al Qaqaa.

And now reports are surfacing that a ghost writer that worked on Chimp's "autobiography" when he was governor of Texas states that he was already planning Iraq's invasion for political reasons to appear strong and that he considered his daddy's war a mistake because he didn't take down Saddam then.

Everyday we are seeing how incompetent this man is a leader. He is a failure and I have no respect for this man. None, zilch, nada.

I just listened to CBS' video on the explosives story, and no mention of this, just satellite photos which "might' show that some explosives were removed before US troops got there. (weren't around 30 tons removed b/w the time the IAEA noted there were 380 tons there and when the US troops found there were 350 tons? Or am I confusing things?)

I also found it interesting that the CBS spokesperson referred to the 'Kerry Administration', rather than the 'Kerry campaign'. :D

troops.

"We can stick it in those and make some good bombs." a soldier told our crew.

Think about it. Where is Al QaQaa located on the map ? And where have most of the suicide bombings and IED's (improvised explosive devices) been used. Not in Saddam's hometown, but south of Baghdad. The insurgency has been using this stuff against our troops.

132. if this gets wide play tonight, I will be amazed.
If it's a good story worth talking about, they won't talk about it.

They would only care about it if it proves a Democrat is lying.

I could be wrong, but I have lost all faith in our hitler media. Please let this get wide play.

134. Alert all media
We need to make sure this gets out to all media, especially TV. Do your part - pick a state and blanket them with emails and/or phone calls!

138. MSNBC TV needs to see this.
They are reporting explosives "may have been gone" before troops got there and "Russians may have taken them."

Jesus H. Christ, Russia denial is already all over the AP.

143. UN Numbers
http://www.ribbands.co.uk/genpages/unnumber.htm

All explosives, including ammunition, blasting explosives, fireworks and ammunition are assigned a 'UN number' which identifies the hazard presented. Associated with each UN number is a three character hazard identifier, defining the Hazard Class, Division and Compatibility Group.

This is useful for ascertaining the hazard presented by any item, and is often used by national governments when deciding what level of control to apply to various types of explosive.

For example, 1.1D decodes as Hazard Class 1 (explosive), Division 1 (mass explosion hazard), and Compatibility Group D (secondary blasting explosive).

The UN publishes a list of all UN numbers for all classes of hazardous goods in their Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, better known as the 'Orange Book'. This is difficult to obtain and expensive. Not many users of explosives, as against regulators, have actually seen a copy let alone purchased one.

So here is the complete list of Class 1 UN numbers with our compliments, last updated 20 June 2001. Unlike the orange book you can reverse search the list by copying it into your favourite word processor, then finding what you want using a search function. To look for a particular item right now, use your browser's 'find' facility.

161. KING 5 in Seattle just showed the video on the 11pm news ...
One of the people with the Mpls team works for KING 5 now and served up the report. Followed it with a report about the Photoshopped Bush ad.

A good news day.
