With the voting system broken, is this now inevitable?

Puuullleeeeezzzzeeee, PERISH THE THOUGHT!!!
I've Had Enough! My daughter said Florida should have "recused" itself because of the 2000 Election and the fact that when you have a Bro as Gov, well then.... see what happen??

SHIT HAPPENS!

48. He Has A Following
But he's not very popular with the Dems! There have been stories here and there about various "unsavory" aspects of his personal life. I've heard many many rumors about other women, but it never goes beyond that. And it is quite well known that his Hispanic wife does not live in the Governor's Mansion. At least that's the information most of us have. If she has changed her mind, I have never heard about it. Then of curse the special treatment his daughter got when she was incarcerated for drugs made a small splash on occasions. But mostly, he pretty much skates!

I will have to say that I live in a HEAVILY REPUKE county, even though I've seen some changes. I've lived in my county since '78 and I don't think I KNOW of one Democrat who has been part of the County Commission. I could be wrong since I don't follow the local stuff so closely, SIMPLY because it's always been REPUKE! Did hear that the Dems are going to try to run someone soon though????

Jeb got more "plus" coverage during the Hurricanes, but there have been problems cropping up since they happened. It's in the local paper, but YOU'LL never hear of it. Like his brother, he's got that Teflon thing and the press isn't hard on him at all.

For me.... YUK!! Since "Cruella" Katherine Haris is my Congressperson, I simply am soooooooo over ALL the Bushs' and those connected with them. Would love to wake up one day and NEVER hear the name again. I won't even buy Bush's Beans even though I KNOW they aren't connected!!

81. Alot of folks like him down here.
He gets alot more support from Democrats here in Florida than you'd think.
The rabid democrats don't like him of course, but the "flimsy" democrats do, like my brother who swears (don't hate him for this) that he would vote for Jeb for president!
I don't know how he makes that disconnect, you know?
Maybe because Jeb isn't the "smirking chimp" that G.Bush is (I love that "smirking chimp"! Saw it here on democraticunderground.com first!)

His favorable numbers run in the high 60s or low 70s, I believe.
I sure don't want him as president (or Governor), but he's not nearly as bad as his brother, because he has a certain level of competence.

Edited on Mon Jan-10-05 12:13 PM by demo dutch
likes by the dems AT ALL!
I am copying some of the comments made by floridians for your info

Jeb is always being sighted for not following the law. He is not a lawyer. He set up the legislature, with bogus redistricting, never follows the will of the people for anything we vote on.

Class Size
Bullet Train
Board of Regents (State University System)
Privitizing everything! Our dept. of children and families, even after children went missing.

Trying to private education, with a education voucher program penalizing failing schools by taking away their public funding. Thank god the vouchers program was been struck down in court. The FCAT (Florida comprehensive assessment test) for student evaluation has been a profitable business for his friend's firm in Texas.

A reporter caught him saying "I have a devious plan if that class size initiative passes". And he did. Fla now only requires 18 credits instead of 22 like the rest of the US. AND he eliminated history and government from requirements to graduate!!! No college will accept the kids who "fast track" themselves out. It is a mess. Our pre K was voted on and passed. He is underfunding it. No teacher certification, and now only three hours a day. Not six. WTF.That's Jeb Bush! They are all cut from the same cloth!!!!

Paved over every bit of space, unsmarth growth, AND corp. tax cuts. polluters favored, old coal plants grandfathered in, he is filthy. Our edu is now 50th in the state. No teachers will come here. Jeb has been the worst. He just looks boyish...don't let it fool you.

And how could I forget, the 2000 election!! when he worked with Katherine Harris to secure things.

We can go on and on. That's just some of the stuff of his public life!
Then then is the time before he was governor. All kinds of questionable stuff as part owner of Codina Construction. Lots of dirt to be dug up! His wife (criminal record) got caught smuggle expensive jewelry in the usa etc. She has a strong spanish accent, I don't think your basic "red neck" could see her as the First Lady.

Jeb is a disaster and even more religious than W.!!!

99. I also live in Florida
And I am well aware of Jeb Bush's actions as governor.
I don't think you read my post carefully, or perhaps I didn't make myself clear enough. My point was not that I agree with Bush on issues or would in a thousand years vote for him. He's wrong on every issue I can think of. But he is a reasonably articulate man and has a level of competence his brother does not. To put it crudely, W makes it clear he has no idea of what he is doing. Jeb is wrong, Machiavellian, but not a moron. It's a simple observation about their relative level of articulateness, intelligence, and abilities. Certainly not any expression of support for him policies. It's also a simple fact that Jeb's approval ratings are higher than W's. To say he has an IQ above 80 is not an expression of support.

of incompetence. Did you see him in the press conference on his Asia tour? going on about the bake sale! I know his approval rating is high in Florida, but mainly because of his Hispanic wife, his ability to speak Spanish and the bible belt folks! 2 terms of governor is the only experience he has and the stuff he was involved with prior to his governorship (with the Codina Group etc.) makes your hair stand up! But that just my opinion.

More like the lower 60's.
Like I said elsewhere, alot of the flimsy Democrats like him.
But one thing is to like him as a governor of your state, another thing is to have him as President.
I dont know, didnt G.Bush get better in numbers in his governatorial elections in Texas, than he did when he ran for president?
Does anyone know this?
I think I saw where Texans didn't vote for him as strongly for Pres as they did for Gov.

6. Imagine Jeb vs. Hillary
Since 1980, either a Bush or a Clinton was in the White House. Bush was VP from 80-88, Pres from 88-92. Then Clinton and now George W. Now we got Jeb and Hillary going at it. This country is ruled by two families it seems.

14. He's already ambassador to...
... tsunami-land. The way things are going, Cheney's heart will beat its last electronic beat a week after Jebbie leaves the gov's mansion, and Bush will name him VP, so they'll both be in the White House. (I'm amazed I can even suggest that, it's so bizarre and perverse....)

But, when Jeb says he's not interested, that's an outright lie--he's got two years before the 2008 election to campaign, and his brother to stump for him from the White House. He's sitting in the catbird seat. The only way he won't try is if Dubya screws up so badly--and the press dogs the White House relentlessly--that the shit rubs off on Jebbie. Right now, that doesn't seem likely.

In many, many ways, Jebbie would be far worse than Dubya, if that's possible. He's reputedly a lot smarter, and a helluva lot more devious. He could run against Jesus Christ himself and make the public believe he was a radical terrorist.

If the Repugs take a break in 2008, just to let the Democrats take the blame for all the crap that's coming down from eight years of Dubya, you can bet he'll be there in 2012. The Cuban mafia will need him to invade Cuba....

he is always being sighted for not following the law. He is not a lawyer. He set up the legislature, with bogus redistricting, never follows the will of the people for anything we vote on.

Class Size
Bullet Train
Board of Regents
on and on and on. Privitizing everything! Our dept. of children and families, even after children went missing.

Paved over every bit of space, unsmarth growth, AND corp. tax cuts. polluters favored, old coal plants grandfathered in, he is filthy. Our edu is now 50th in the state. No teachers will come here. Jeb has been the worst. He just looks boyish...don't let it fool you.

a reporter caught him saying "I have a devious plan if that class size initiative passes".

Edited on Sat Jan-08-05 03:15 PM by corbett
I live in Florida and, as you might imagine, have a few things to say about Jeb. He's a moderate, as Republicans go, except, of course, that he helped his brother win ANOTHER rigged election. The shrub, of course, was something of a moderate as governor of Texas, until the Vulcans got their hands on him.

When Jeb runs in 2008, he will win the Republican primary. This is just as certain as the shrub's primary victory in 2000. Will he win the presidency? There's no way he can win it in a fair fight against the Dems but he can steal it very easily. He has the blueprints for rigged elections in his desk in Tallahassee.

Jeb Bush

Jeb Bush has given his brother's presidency its first hint of scandal by going public to deny an affair. Read our guide to the best sites on the governor of Florida

http://www.guardian.co.uk/netnotes/article/0,6729,491360,00.html

Sarah Left
Tuesday May 15, 2001

1. Jeb Bush - son to a former president, brother to the serving president, and governor to millions of frustrated voters - has publicly denied having an affair with one Cynthia Henderson, the head of Florida's department of management services.

2. Aside from being a trained lawyer, Ms Henderson was also a Playboy bunny in her pre-government years. The fact has not been universally appreciated in Florida
.

3. Nor has it been appreciated by Jeb's stylish, Mexican-born wife, Colomba. Rumours have been doing the rounds in Tallahassee that Jeb may not run for another term as governor due to family pressures.

4. Sadly Columba is not in a position to point a manicured finger at Jeb for embarrassing the family. She was pulled up by US customs officials in 1999 for failing to declare $19,000 worth of booty from a Parisian shopping spree. The scandal kept late night talk shows in jokes for months.

5. Jeb was born into the Bush family during their years in oil-rich Midland, Texas.

6. When papa Bush became president, the spotlight also fell on his politically favourable sons. Many questioned the boys' business dealings, although the president was quick to defend his sons.

7.*** Jeb famously acted as a real estate consultant for Miguel Recarey, now a fugitive from US justice who has been spotted in Spain and Venezuela. The FBI would like to speak with Recarey about millions of dollars of Medicare fraud from his time in charge of one the country's largest health care organisations.*****

8. But neither Dad nor big brother George could save him from the wrath of those Florida voters who felt that many black and Jewish areas of the state had been disenfranchised to hand victory to the Republicans. The Florida election vote-count scandal led to Jeb banning the controversial punch cards.

9. Nevertheless some of the state's voters have kept up an impeachment campaign.

10. Maybe Jeb should follow George's lead and rely on appearances with his popular mother, Barbara Bush.

Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 02:40 PM by demo dutch
There is Jeb and Armando Codina.
A Real estate deal gone bad attached to a Saving and Loan bank gone bust. Taxpayers picked up the tab for the unpaid $4 million.

Then there is Jeb and Camilo Padrera
Jeb was in charge of finding tenants for Padreda's empty HUD-financed office buildings. Padreda pleaded guilty to charges that he defrauded HUD of millions of dollars during the 1980s.

Jeb and Miguel Recarey
Which you already convered. But there is more to it....

Jeb and the Contras
Because of the role IMC may have played in Oliver North's secret contra-supply network. (IMC, International Medical Centers, was one of the key tenants for Padreda's HUD-financed buildings.

Jeb and "Manny" Diaz
Jeb, then serving as Florida's secretary of commerce, arranged a private meeting for Diaz with Florida's Republican governor Bob Martinez. Promptly afterward, Diaz Farms landed a lucrative, $1.72 million, state-highway-landscaping contract -- despite the fact that Diaz had little prior highway-landscaping experience.
There's more to it!

You can read in detail at

What we need is someone who has passion, consistency, and is willing to stand up for his or her candidacy.

107. He's got a pretty good chance.
George Bush Sr. managed to win the presidency in a landslide despite
Iran Contra having cost the Republicans control of the Senate and caused Ronald Reagan's approval ratings to plummet. Might I add that he had a hand in those treasonous arms deals too? Therefore, I wouldn't be so sure that Jeb Bush will fall due to the upcoming failures of his brother's administration.

The thing Jeb's got going for him is that he will most certainly win Florida, with or without rigging. That's a key state in the event of yet another close election. And history shows me that where one swing
state goes, others may follow.

And yes, the election rigging is definitely a factor. Unless the Democrats either get election reform going or get some bright young hackers into the battleground, Jeb's got the election all but wrapped
up.

110. There are lot of people that HATE Jeb, soooo many scandals.
I posted a lot of them on this thread. The one that I had almost forgotten was the The Jeb-Enron Connection involving the Enron/FL State Pension Fund fiasco. It was published in the in the form of a front page story in the business section New York Times, with the headline "At the 11th hour, He Bought Enron. But Why?"

The Florida pension fund was the biggest loser, $350 million, next to Enron employees. Unfortunately it's not too well known, the Bushies managed to bury it.

NYT speculates on the motives for why Alliance Capital Investment Management investor Alfred Harrison invested so much of Florida's pension funds in Enron even while the Enron stock was falling.
The paper pointed out that that Jeb Bush, a state pension trustee and one of three who administer the state's pension fund, also had a direct economic relationship with Enron in the form of a partnership.

111. His daughter Noelle was arrested and charged with felony prescription
fraud in 2002. Although Noelle has escaped prosecution and was reportedly on the mend in a drug rehab program, the arrest led to a spate of other stories indicating that she received special treatment.

Despite a horrendous driving record and several car crashes, including one with a Tallahassee resident, Jeb's wife told police she was taking a prescription drug, Noelle wasn't subjected to a drug or alcohol test when she pulled up at Walgreens to fetch her fraudulent prescription for Xanax.

A several months later the National Enquirer broke a story that Noelle had previously tried the same scam. The Enquirer had the smoking gun as well in the form of stolen prescription forms filled out and signed by Noelle. Those fraudulent prescriptions were for the OxyContin and Xanax.

Despite the smoking gun provided by the Enquirer and no denials from the Bush camp, the national and state media completely ignored the fact that Noelle Bush was a multiple offender. So once again the Bush family managed to get off the hook.

In the fall of 2002, An employee discovers 0.2g crack cocaine hidden in Noelle's shoe, while she is a patient at the Center for Drug-Free Living. The employee prepares a written statement, but the supervisor orders her to stop talking to police, and to destroy the document. Lacking the document or cooperation, police were unable to make an arrest. In addition to that a judge blocks police from questioning the employees that found the crack cocaine in Noelle's shoe, citing privacy laws. Noelle than asks that drug court records be closed on her case, citing a ludicrous theory involving "expectation of privacy." The real reason, of course, is the extra scrutiny her celebrity status is costing her. A judge denies her request to seal drug court records. Eventually Noelle is sentenced to ten days in Orange County jail for contempt, because of the crack cocaine.
In Aug 2003 Noelle is released from rehab to the custody of her parents.

More proof that the Bush family considers themselves above the law and has the MSM in their pocket!
