14. Clark Won't Even Run
See my posts in the two Clark threads, he won't even run. Why is he on the list?

Why isn't Warner on the list? Or Blagodevich (or however the hell you spell it)? Or Easley?

Eek!

Perish that thought, unless you want Shrub's successor to win 48 states.

I'll take Mark Warner!

15. I don't think he wants the job
Here is the link for a video of a Q&A period with Senator Feingold from this summer where near the end he states that he'll probably never run for president because he doesn't want to put that kind of stress on his family. Hopefully he'll change his mind because he is dramatically better than any of the other names being thrown around. He's a guy who can connect with rural conservative voters while supporting a progressive agenda. This is precisely what our party, as well as our country, needs.

22. Warner and Feingold
I'd like a unity ticket with the two, with Warner at the top. It would make the Democratic Party have a platform again.

10. WE MUST LET GO OF LOSING ISSUES
We have to face the fact that some of our issues are proven losers.

1- We must let go of gun control. It is costing us huge blocks of would be Democratic votes in the south, and in states like Ohio, and Michigan. Let the rednecks have their guns. We should call for tougher prison sentences for those who commit crimes with guns.

2- Abortion on demand is an issue that is hurting us. Here is why. Pro life voters will NOT vote for a pro choice candidate. Pro choice voters WILl vote for a pro life candidate. We need to modify our stance to choice in the first trimester, unless there is a medical reason to do otherwise. Pools are shopwing women of child bearing age to be opposed to abortion.

3- Gay marriage. We should offer up our own amendment calling marriage an institution between a man and a women, but allow for civil unions.

4- Let he rednecks have their flag desecration amendment. It is another issue that costs us votes in the south.

We need to get back to the issues that made the Democratic Party great. JOBS, the enviorment, health care, etc.

28. Nope, not really.
Edited on Tue Nov-23-04 06:06 AM by Harvey Korman
No more of the "move more to the right" boobery. Please. You seem to think these cultural crusaders will take a toe, when the fact is they won't settle for anything less than the entire fucking foot.

1. OK, fine. It would certainly make it interesting.
2. No, not really. I would not vote for an anti-choice presidential candidate, and I'm male.
3. Absolutely not. Take it someplace else.
4. Yet again, you must be crazy.

On the last point, we agree. We DO need to re-establish our populist appeal (in contrast to the phony populism cultivated by you-know-who), but that goal is in no way dependent on nos. 2,3, and 4.

Speculation Grows On Presidential Bid For Warner in 2008
snip..
By Michael D. Shear
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, November 14, 2004; Page C01

Web surfers at a site called the Democratic Underground think Virginia Gov. Mark R. Warner should be their party's next presidential candidate. So does a guy named Steve, who has started a "Warner in 2008" Internet journal. And among political pundits and the soul-searching leadership of the Democratic Party, Warner's name keeps popping up.

24. Howard Dean!
Howard Dean has proven to be a man of his word. No one will be able to call him a "flip flopper." He is a social progressive and a fiscal conservative, the perfect combination we need in a candidate. Let's face it--the media ruined him. Should he not become the DNC chair, let's give him another chance. He's good at mobilizing peopple.

27. US possible 2008 presidential candidates
The 2004 presidential election is barely over, and already dozens of politicians are positioning themselves as possible 2008 presidential candidates.

Wikipedia has a comprehensive list of possible 2008 presidential candidates at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._p..._election,_2008

Another large list of possible 2008 presidential candidates is at http://www.100towatch.com/

These lists include the obvious names like Hillary, Rudy, Arnold, Ralph and Jeb, but there are many other lesser-known possible 2008 presidential candidates.

One thing is certain: It's going to be an interesting four years before the 2008 presidential election.

30. JOHN KERRY IN '08
Why start with someone who doesn't know about the campaign trail? I saw we run a seasoned politician that the public is already familiar with. Despite having lost the election, he did surprisingly well enough to give him a second look.

35. Another forgotten name
Former California Governor Gray Davis would be an excellent choice. By the time rolls around to start campaigning, the fallout from the recall will have long passed, and people will be ready to accept him again.
