DU ACTIVIST PROPOSAL: "Bring the National Guard home. Immediately."
Norman Solomon has published the following plea:

National Guard troops don't belong in Iraq. They should be rescuing and protecting in Louisiana and Mississippi, not patrolling and killing in a country that was invaded on the basis of presidential deception. They should be fighting the effects of flood waters at home - helping people in the communities they know best - not battling Iraqi people who want them to go away.

Let's use the Internet today to forward and post this demand so widely that the politicians in Washington can no longer ignore it:

Bring the National Guard home. Immediately.

From The National Guard Belongs in New Orleans and Biloxi. Not Baghdad By Norman Solomon on August 31, 2005

Please make this a DU Activist Group endeavor.

I will cross post in GD to bring as much attention as possible to this action item proposal.

Thank you.

Peace.

3. So what's the ACTION item? Here's for LTEs
We need to get into the habit of suggesting real action items, not just ideas.

So What can we do to support this excellent suggestion?

For my part, the action I know best is How To Write Letters to the Editors that have more chances of getting published (the tips include a link to the Media Database to find local papers to target).
Maybe that's part of the overall strategy. Pass the link around!

Don't just complain, Take Action.

4. The actions are the ones I've already been doing, including ...
.... contacting organizations like TrueMajority, Huffington Post and others and urging print media and streaming video ad campaigns and phone calls and letters to members of Congress.

I don't post calls for action without already taking specific action. And, I thought I'd be insulting folk by stating the obvious things we all could do should Skinner and the DU management team decide to act on the suggestion.

Thank you for requesting that I be explicit. I hope the above is helpful to you and others.

Peace.

5. HuffPo: Mr. President: Bring Home the Southern Guardsmen Tonight
Mr. President: Bring Home the Southern Guardsmen Tonight

September 1, 2005

Dear Mr. President,

I'm a lifelong Democrat and you're a Republican on the ropes, but for the good of the country I will give you a little advice. If you do not want to see your already shrinking Presidency disintegrate into political nothingness, you will get every National Guardsman from Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama on the first thing smoking out of Baghdad. They joined the Guard with this very sort of catastrophe in mind, not to dodge IEDs in some far-off desert.

The righteous white Southerner is all that is left of your base and if you do not bring their boys home on the double I promise you they will join our side, oppose this reckless war, and oppose you.

That's clear enough. Can we help spread it?

Peace.

6. Brilliant
I thought the National Guard was under the control of Governors, unless there was a national emergency.

Demand your governor bring your state's guard units home.

How do we do this?
