Anyone ever tried butter, peanut butter, mayo, vegetable oil or bath oil to get tar off their car?

Ehow suggests trying those, then "Let it sit for 24 hours to soften the tar. Wipe with a clean cloth."
I just wonder if anyone's tried it already and can testify that it doesn't mess up the paint.
I'd like to try something more environmentally friendly than commercial bug-tar remover.

2. I've never used it for road tar, but lemon oil furniture polish will remove roofing tar |

from your hands. It just dissolved it so I could wash it off with soap and water. I don't know if it would have any effect on your paint job, so it might be good to try a little bit in an inconspicuous place to test it. I have also used peanut butter to remove chewing gum from a child's hair without having to cut it. Peanut butter also works on the gummy residue when removing a label from glass, plastic or metal.

If the above doesn't work for the more stubborn tar, shoot a little WD-40 on it and let it soak a bit, then try wiping it off.
