Sure they very hard to see. One must look very close in various levels of light. I first observed one in a glass holding in the lab at the University. I could only see small red dots in the water. The Scientist said "You are seeing the heart beat and the blood flowing."
On closer observation one could make out the outline of the tiny creature. For the most part though he was a "See through fish." It is a fish created in Japan, The "Medaka Fish."
JitterbugPerfume researched fish information in Google. Cryfordawn used to have some of those fishes, they disappeared one day.
