I realize that a lot of his music was made during the battle over integration, but seriously how could anyone be that racist? That shit is fucking ridiculous. It almost borders on parody. Did the racists back then actually take that seriously?

Seriously, you could take the lyrics in his songs and come up with the perfect composite picture of the old timey racists in the South. It's like he's doing a caricature of the dumbest, most virulent racist possible.
