And don't say Pricilla and don't be a smart ass and say Elton John or some shit like that...the Queen must be a musician and must be a female :)

1. Does Elton John count? |
|
That isn't gay bashing - he's out of the closet and I'm not in any way anti-gay. I just thought that since he's been knighted, he is royalty!

Is this something like the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, where one head wears two crowns?

Janis, maybe, but she flared out too soon.

9. Aretha or Tina. Or Diana R. White women just didn't have a high profile |
|
outside of folk, in which case it would be Mary Travers.

16. I never thought of her as being of the "rock" genre. |
|
For some reason, I always think of Janis as being more bluesy.

17. Gotta go with Janis even given her tragically short life... |
|
a case could be made for Tina Turner, Grace Slick and Melissa Ethridge... but Janis' short life and career doesn't change the immense impact she had and the echo of that impact almost 40 yrs after her death any more than Buddy Holly's similarly short time of making records lessens his impact and continuing influence.
