Don't know how to handle this. |
|
So we all know that tomorrow is mothers day. My parents decided to come to NC for the weekend. So I get to spend mothers day with my mom for the first time in ten years. Last july my girlfriends mother passed away. This will be the first mothers day without her mother. I am really excited to see my mom. But at the same time I don't want to seem like I am not sensitive to what my girlfriend is going through. She isn't doing to good today and I know tomorrow will be worse. I don't want to leave her home alone tomorrow. I just don't know how to handle it.

1. You bring your girlfriend with you |
|
Tell you parents, before they meet her, about her situation - having lost her mother, first Mother's Day without her - and make sure you are with her all day.

Also, understand if she may need some times alone due to emotions.
I hope all goes well

it's hard to lose people. But, you'll have to balance that with the fun of seeing your own mother.
It probably won't be as hard as you think--

17. That is very good advice. |
|
And if your mom is has really good maternal instincts she'll kick into surogate maternal mode and bond with your girlfriend. Things can have a way of working out.

Plan her into everything but make sure she knows that you understand that she may not feel up to it.

4. Can you set aside some special time just for your gf tomorrow? |
|
I don't think you should feel guilty about spending time with your mother. At the same time, it's awfully sweet and supportive of you to empathize with what your mate is going through.
Perhaps you could spend some extra TLC or snuggle time with the gf before and after the visit with your mother. Just acknowledging her grief would probably go a long way.
How kind of you to be so thoughtful.

I just want to make sure she is ok tomorrow. We went out earlier so I could get a card for my mom and she cried the whole time. I just want her to be ok.

Just tell them we haven't burned any since 2002. We are in the middle of a really bad drought. Don't want to accidentally start a forrest fire.

Girlfriend had her hillbilly sister in law convinced that if she wanted a lower power bill all she had to do was put a potato on the meter.

15. Texas has so many historic cities (like Athens, Paris, and Rome), you can't blame Texans |
|
for thinking the rest of the world is way behind them culturally
IIRC, it's even possible to go to Hell without leaving the state
