Marriage, Babies, _______
What comes next? I'm having musings about writing a trilogy. One deals with a marriage. One deals with child birth. What should the third one deal with? I'm thinking death. How do you fill in the blank?

1. Fledging the children.
Edited on Tue Mar-18-08 12:40 PM by Gormy Cuss
Everybody does death. I think it would be far more interesting to take the characters through the period of raising children to the point of the offspring's own marriageable state.

5. Yes.
But that wasn't from a trilogy was it? I think it would an interesting and less typical circle from marriage to marriage rather than marriage to death.

Not on youtube :(

The Godfathers did "birth school work death".

10. Grandparenthood
should probably come before death. If you are talking about lifecycles.

People live much longer now and don't just work and then die. They have whole other "Second Acts" to their lives.

24. I may be a pessimist
but my first thought was the ending of marriage. Depending on the number of characters you are thinking of including, that ending could be handled in a number of ways - divorce and then possibly re-marriage (out of endings come new beginnings) or death and how that is handled.

26. I don't think that makes you a pessimist
Want to know something sad though.

When I used to think of people losing their spouses and partners, the thing that used to cheer me was thinking that it didn't mean never loving again. That people could meet new partners after losing the love of their life and find happiness again.

And the example I always looked to - Paul McCartney.

;(

44. May I give you unasked-for editorial advice?
Marriage = many decades; childbirth = 9 months. I wouldn't call these parallel in terms of content for a novel, unless you are writing about a 9-month-old marriage. I'd address equalizing the themes first, then come up with your third one.
