Just saw The Bucket List. Why do they mis-advertise movies? (spoiler)

The ads make this look like a comedy. It has some light moments, but it's about two guys coming to grips with the fact that THEY'RE DYING OF CANCER!! Not a comedy!!

My dad said at Christmas time that he wants to see this. I just e-mailed him, and warned him that it reminded me of the last months with Mom and might do the same for him. Also said he might like it, but not to expect it to be laugh-out-loud funny.

Reminds me of "The Village", which I skipped in the theatres because I thought it was a horror movie. Then I saw it on TV and found it interesting.

Would it kill the studios to advertise honestly?

98% of their movies would have to be sold as either "derivative action film featuring stale acting, explosions and boobies", or "fart and dog-bites-crotch jokes ".

which movies to see. I mean, if you're expecting "fart and dog-bites-crotch jokes " and you get a gripping courtroom drama set in a small Southern town, you're likely to be disappointed.

13. you're right - I should have added this though:

it still leaves them with 2% of movies that they would also have to describe, but can't be described in one sentence like the others. Now they try to add subtle nuance to the fart-joke movie ads, but it doesn't work for me.... I know they're all the same movie... despite having different writers.... and actors... producers, etc.

It was a drama. A good drama, but a drama nonetheless. I'm just saying "Call a drama a drama". That's all.

Never never never trust the movie advertising!

Or the trailers, for that matter!

They always show you the best parts...

Whenever my husband and I are interested in a movie, we read what the critics have to say...

And then we decide!

Some critics we trust more than others...we know if what they say actually fits us...

We are rarely disappointed these days...

12. I thought the movie was a true masterpiece. I lost my

husband last July, but found this movie to be totaly MORE ABOUT LIFE than about death.

It wasn't a very realistic movie, but it was profound in the fact that it tells me it is possible for someone to impact someone elese life in a very short time. I have already seen it twice and taken a friend who lost her husband to cancer. She was glad she went. Because she said "everyone" at work was talking about the movie.

I needed the wonderful laughs from Jack and Morgan...and had to go back a second time just because you miss some of the one liners the first time.

14. My concern, honestly, is that my dad voiced an interest in seeing this film

because it looked funny. Maybe he'll handle it's theme well, but maybe it'll touch painfully close to home (my mother died of a brain tumor). I would prefer that he could choose to see it on the basis of knowing that it's a drama about cancer, not a comedy. The advertising presents it as a comedy, which is what interested him. I'm not criticizing the film--just the advertising.
