Poll question: Guys, do you carry a pocket knife? What type?
Here's mine

Gerber LST Drop Point. I also have the Sportsman II stag handle, but that is only for formal wear.

1. Used to, now it's in the center console of my car in case I have to
break a window, slash a seatbelt, or as a last resort due to trapped legs and a burning car - my own throat.

5. I used to when I worked at a pizza place
and I had to open boxes and stuff. Also I didn't have a car and I often had to walk home at 2 in the morning. :P

It's a rather indescribable knife... it's basically shaped almost like a little pistol, complete with a finger-hole. The blade is where the barrel would be in a gun. Not foldable, just one solid piece of metal. It was cheap, and all I needed was something strong enough to cut through packing tape.

Then I got a car and got a job at a warehouse where I wasn't allowed to open boxes, so I had no need to carry it anymore. I've still got it around somewhere, but I haven't put it in my pocket in at least 3 years now.

11. I used mine when I was a rural route carrier. They had cutters there but
they had a bad habit of breaking at inopportune times. I would have a bundle of newspapers in the back seat of my car. I could reach around and cut the binders with a knife, but not with the plastic cutters.

I don't think it could have handled anything tougher than packing tape.

24. The Gerber is very hard. It holds it edge well. My dad was an
auto upholsterer. He would wear out a knife blade. He'd wear them down to a spike. He wore his sharpening stone down too.

13. I am naked without my Swiss Army Knife
Have not been without one for over 40 years. The main reason is for the cork screw cause I heard W.C. Fields commenting that he was in the deepest Africa once. Lost his cork screw and was forced to survive on food and water for several days. Don't want that ever happening to me.

I hate when I have to leave it at home because I'm going to some venue where they have taken the "homeland security" thing too far. I once forgot I had it when I went to Jury Duty, and I had to ditch it in the bushes outside the building. Luckily, it was still there when I got out.

Maybe a 2 or 2.5 inch blade, seems like good steel, holds an edge for quite a while.

Then I have another, no-name knife on my key-ring, 1 inch blade, also handy.

I just have to remember to put them in checked baggage when I fly.

At least, along with my cellphone and a Chapstick. At work you can add a Swiss Army knife and a Leatherman. And a tape measure and flashlight. And an iPod nano with a cassette adapter.

38. A new Sears Craftsman three blade pocket knife
I had an old rusty one with a broken blade and returned it to Sears. Their guarantee is golden and they happily replaced it with a new one. I think my model is the last one made from high grade carbon steel instead of one of the new stainless alloy knives; it takes and holds a keen an edge very well.

These things are the SHIT, man! They look like a pocket knife. Fit in a pocket like a pocket knife. But flip it open, and it's a fully functional utility knife, good for opening boxes, cutting printed vinyl, or (in the wrong hands) giving George W. Bush dictatorial powers.

I use to carry one around with me everywhere....then, when 9/11 happened, I decided I couldn't carry one anymore, otherwise, I'd lose it...

I use to work for Wm. B. Meyer, and I traveled quite often, and after 9/11 I had to completely change my travel habits, or lose material items...so since, 2001 I haven't carried a pocket knife.

I use to carry a baby Gerber knife....funny/crazy/insane story behind this knife.....

77. Two. A large lock blade and a small clasp knife.
The lock blade is for protection, and the clasp knife is for fingernails, opening boxes, letters, and things like that.

78. I don't go out without one of my Bucks.
A large lock-blade for when wearing jeans, and a smaller, flatter one for slacks. Been that way for about 45 years.

Regards, Mugu
