I'm no longer an earthquake virgin!
This morning, on almost exactly my 2nd anniversary of living in Los Angeles, I felt my first earthquake!

Granted, it was TINY. Well, not so much tiny (4.2) as it was extremely far away. And yet, it woke me up at about 1:55 this morning.

Specifically, the window rattle woke me up. And then I noticed that my bed was vibrating ever so slightly.

Honestly, I can't believe it took 2 years to feel one. We've had a couple in those 2 years, but I always seem to be out of town. ;)

1. Wouldn't it have been easier...
To simply go to a motel with a vibrating bed for such things? Last longer, too!

2. Hahaha
You know, that's probably a pretty apt description, although the bed was *barely* moving. I'm surprised it woke me up.

8. I never thought
I'd see the day when someone would write "a nice motel in Carson" I really do not think there is such a thing.

3. Congratulations!
Survived the Whittier quake when I lived there. Living in El Segundo, at the time, the place shook like jello. Woke up to the sound of picture frames slapping against the walls... it was like a scene out of The Exorcist!! Did you remember to go into an archway or doorway?

4. Oh geez!
That sounds scary. But no, it was nothing like that. It was teeeeeny. I'm really surprised it woke me up.

And no, didn't run for the doorway. I just looked at the clock so that I could verify what I felt later, and rolled over and went back to sleep. ;)

7. For real??
I live in LA and felt nothing! I've only been here for about 1.5 years but did feel one during the summer that shook my bed lightly for a few seconds. Weird!

11. Yeah, seriously!
My roomie didn't feel anything either. It was really, really light. I must have been at the perfect point in the REM cycle to be woken up.

I was in Europe when you all had the earthquake this summer, though I got a rather freaked-out email from above-mentioned roomie! LOL

9. My earthquake story includes a motorcycle and hwy. 101.
Just cruising along at about 75 mph when all the sudden I'm bouncing all over my lane. I thought that a tire was failing, then it quit. A very strange experience, and one that I don't wish to repeat.

Regards, Mugu

12. Yikes!
That would completely freak me out!

I was cool with the slight bed shake, but much more and I know I'll panic. ;)

15. Yeah, it was definitely tiny
it's just the first time I've felt *anything* and I've been here for 2 years now!

I'll pass on the 6-8 mag ones though. The thought of those completely freaks me out.

Whenever a freight train rolls past my building. Less than 150 yards away.

17. That is
basically what it felt like. Granted a VERY short freight train!

Thanks! I'm hoping to avoid the Big One! I'm from the midwest, where the earth doesn't move. Ever. ;)
