This friend of mine sent me some email about a ungrateful burqa wearing Iraqi immigrant :eyes: who was put in her place by a US soldier on leave. It's been floating around the web since 2003, total crap, even cited by snopes. Anyway, this person does not care that the story is a fake and went on a screed about immigrants, so I felt the need to respond. Please let me know what you think. Grammar cops, feel free to unload.
F' freepers.
Here goes...
Well, for me authenticity is important. To say that authenticity isn't important sounds like something Dick Cheney would say. In fact, I would dare state that the lack of authenticity is precisely why this nation is in the predicament that it is.
As for keeping our country free, our personal freedoms have never been so threatened as they have been for the past six years under this administration. So arrogant that they think that they can gallivant around the globe doing whatever they please for the benefit of a few, under the guise of "protecting" us, spreading "democracy" and "fighting terrorism." Mr. Bush & Mr. Cheney have abused the citizenry and have done such serious damage to our reputation as a nation, that I'm hardly surprised that others would talk negatively of us. Shouldn't you be upset with them?
These ungrateful immigrants you speak of, where are you meeting these people and what exactly are they saying? More importantly, who's hiring them? Interesting that nobody seems to discuss that.... cough-cough WAL-MART cough-cough Home Depot... The only thing negative I've ever heard from a foreigner is what your grandparents mentioned nearly a century ago, that we are "spoiled rotten". My Italian great-grandparents felt the same way and they even had the audacity to not learn how to speak English.
___________, I respect your opinion, I will always respect your opinion but I really think we have opposing views on this. I'm sorry but I am not buying into the Fox News, brown shirt, xenophobic/nationalist groove thing. It does not make me proud, it's racist scapegoating, it's "divide and conquer", it's embarrassing to us as a people and quite frankly, Un-American.
Respectfully yours,
