Should I buy this Harley Davidson?
I've wanted one since I was a little kid.
I love motorcycling.
The dealership called me at lunch to tell me I am approved.
I'll be 40 this summer.
I'm not married, nor do I have any kids.
I just accepted a great new job with the local state university here in central Ohio.
I am, on occasion, an idiot...

Take the MSF rider course if you haven't already. Be careful, and have fun.

6. Yeah, I've been riding since I was 15.
The safety courses are great though. I more worried about where to park it or not park it! I've heard they get stolen quite frequently, but I guess that's what insurance is for. I won't have a garage for it until August and I'm a little skeered to keep it outside.

9. About 25 years worth...
First Harley though. I've bought Jap bikes all my life. I'm worried a bird would crap on it or something...

19. go for it, only live once...
biggest mistake I see is new riders getting on a Harley, and then hating it.

21. I've riden some Sporties and a VRod a couple of times.
They are definately a different animal. The Softail seems pretty comfy though.

I think the first ride will be to go see my old man. He's always asking me when I'm gonna get a Harley...

10. buy a mountain bike, they are more fun
plus, the over-the-top homoerotic nature of the whole harley scene is kinda' creepy.

Real men and women ride mountain bikes.

17. Harleys are more of a fashion statement than serious iron...
however there's nothing wrong with basing a vehicle selection on that criteria. People buy everything from Hummers to Priuses for that very reason.

I find many Harley riders to be the 'ponytail-built-into-the-helmet' types, but that may be a regional thing. The ridership certainly has changed over the years however - it ain't what it used to be. It may also be related to price.

Whatever you do though, please leave the stock exhaust and dB levels intact.

Enjoy!

18. Absoluetly. I have no tolerance for drag pipes...
and I'm no "1%'er". I will do most of my riding alone. I don't need to be a part of the "pack mentality".

20. That looks like a soft-tail fat boy btw..
Good pick. Gunmetal gray works well on it..

Have you considered a Victory? My personal faves are vintage Japanese street bikes, but I'm more of a sports-car kind of guy in general.

22. My step-brother bought a Victory a few years ago...
Stranagely enough, he's had quite a few problems with it. I thought they were high quality bikes, but not according to him. The one I'm picking up is a Softail Standard, Pacific blue, which is a gorgeous color. It's got polished rims as well, the back rim is solid, (no holes in it). Should be nice for long distance rides.

23. Love that solid rear rim as well.. they look great.
Had no idea about problems with Victory bikes. Given their price, that inexcusable. Reminds me Mercedes quality control problems during the 90's and early 00's. For that price, the things should be damn near unbreakable.
