I just ordered a Bose radio w/CD.....

I've never had a decent stereo system, never had a good radio. I've always bought cheap "boomboxes" because I didn't want to spend the money. But I LOVE music, and I decided that if I can't afford an entertainment-center type of player, I'd get a Bose. This is very uncharisteristic of me because I'm usually stingy with myself. But if it sounds really good, I will NOT regret it! Anybody have a Bose?

1. shoot, I would have sent you my old one.

We upgraded the kitchen one with one that has the ipod dock. The old one is still sitting in a closet somewhere.

Did it have a good sound? I'd hate to make the mistake of buying something that's not worth it.

That's why we upgraded. The smaller the room the better the sound though, the bass isn't quite enough to handle a large family room for instance.

5. They're OK for a table radio

though the Cambridge Soundworks, Boston Acoustics, and Tivoli Audio radios sound better for less money. They are, however, very easy-to-use and have a really small footprint. They aren't a substitute for a good hi-fi component system, however.

They aren't bad, but IMHO are too expensive for what they are. The Tivolis are available as stereo setups with an optional separate CD player, and have handsome little wood cabinets. They sound fantastic for something using 3" full-range drivers.

As an aside, Bose's best product IMHO is the 151 outdoor speaker, a rugged little stinker with the venerable old 4.5" vicks-cough-drop-shaped full-range driver. They sound OK, nothing spectacular but not offensively bad, and they're pretty much indestructable. Great under-the-eaves backyard speakers. Pretty much install-and-forget speakers.

CD player. Love them. The sound is amazing.
