8. My husband bought mine.
It was from a pawn shop so technically it was the previous owner who supported DeBeers.

2. You should have put an "other" option.
I bought my wife a diamond bracelet for valentine's day a few years ago after her best friend told me that was what she wanted. When I gave it to my wife, she was utterly shocked. Her best friend had pulled on over on me, as she gleefully admitted. Of course, my wife still loves the bracelet.

12. Thank you.
Although, to be fair, I also considered the carbon option. You just don't see that much carbon these days.

31. What can I say, i don't want my hard-earned money
going to companies that are:

a: destroying lives to get sparklies out of the ground
b: keeping prices artificially high by keeping a lock on the supply

24. Me, either. And I once freaked out my husband by asking him to return
a pair of earrings he sweated to buy for me because we were boycotting apartheid.

The poor man couldn't win but he took it well and got me a stuffed animal instead. (A stuffed nylon animal, okay?)

I've never understood why people like diamonds because I'm a color addict.

7. Shame on you! Aren't you worried about De Beers?
How will they maintain themselves in the manner to which they've become accustomed?

16. What, me worry?
De Beers are safely in De Fridge. One or two of them may be in danger a little later.

21. Yes, I realize it's a non-snarky, straightforward answer.
Is snark necessary?

(I'm not going to start my own poll, 'cause I really don't care why other people buy diamonds. :P )

23. I used to sell "fish gravel" in a mall store.
You don't want to buy diamonds. The cubic carbon isn't worth that much, because of the DeBeers cartel. Crummy diamonds have black spots in them and flaws. The crap they sell as rings is sparkly, but put it under a 10 power loupe and you got a world o'trash. It should die and come back as part of a grinding wheel.

I'd much rather have a nice emerald or tanzanite.

The most expensive gem substance, if high quality, is nephrite, or true jade.

(I have GIA certificates in Diamond Grading and Colored Stone Grading).

26. Because I like to piss off hypocrites.
Unless you grow everything you eat yourself, and unless you built your house with your own hands, and unless you walk to work (where you are self-employed), and unless you are a tax evader....

EVERYTHING YOU DO HAS BLOOD ON IT.

There's no getting around it. Every dollar you spend pays for death. Either get ENTIRELY off the grid, or deal with it.
