My kitty is home from the hospital
He's doing fine, just wants to sit in his window. He's already peed once, which is a bit of a relief.
I'm a bit concerned, because the vet put him on a Rx food from Royal Canin, and they've had a bunch of products recalled. But then what company hasn't?

Anyway, the Critters household is complete again.

3. I'm glad someone has good news today.
My mom had to have her beagle put to sleep today. She was diagnosed with diabetes. This is the 2nd beagle that this has happened to. Mom did insulin injections twice a day with the first one and just couldn't go through it again with this one. It was so hard explaining to my girls(ages 8 and 6). Daisy was 8 and my kids grew up with her.

5. Thanks, It's kind of weird though-
Daisy is the dog's name too lol. My dad used to call me Daisymae as a kid and it stuck.

7. That's what happens with nicknames.

There's an old Norse saying,

I'm going to try to translate it to make sense-

" A loved child has many names"

-I've always liked that one.

;-)

6. That's good news, Critters.
I haven't followed the whole story, but
it sounds like what one of my kitties went
through.
He had complete urinary blockage and
almost died.

Is the Rx food Royal Canin SO formula for felines?

That's what my two guys eat and it's A-OK!

I know, I was worried, too.

;-) :hi:

19. Yes, it is the Royal Canin SO. He was on C/D, but the vet said
it obviously hadn't worked, so time to try something else. Have you been feeding it to a non-flutd cat? Shadow wants to eat it, and I need to check with the vet as to whether that's okay. He ate the c/d some, but wasn't that fond. Sophie, cat no 3, won't touch anything but Wysong.

Glad to hear you've had good luck with the Royal Canin.

8. One of my kitties had a blockage a few years ago
The vet swore that it was because we were feeding him dry food. Trying to take the kittie's dry away was impossible. They wouldn't stop yowling- like we were starving them- all 3 of them "singing in the round". We surrendered and still feed them dry-haven't had a problem since.

11. Baloney. The Rx food the vets

prescribe for urinary tract problems IS

dry food!

I hope you got a new vet.

13. Yes, we go to the same practice, just not to him.
Snickers is our dumpster cat. That is where my husband and I found him almost 10 years ago. He eats anything. His favorites are corn on the cob and salad. He jumps up on the table when we're done and eats what the kids leave behind-right off the cob. It's hysterical. I personally think it was something to do with the litter we were using,it was some no name brand that we had not used before and haven't since. He didn't like it and avoided the litter box at all costs and probably gave himself the infection/blockage. It was a scary few days for us, I really thought he wasn't going to make it. But he's still here.

Do you know Lizerdbits, fluffy Max's mom? Max also had a urinary tract blockage and is also on special food but I can't remember the name off the top of my head. If you see her around you could ask her.

21. Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease--
Edited on Wed May-16-07 02:59 PM by mycritters2
He was diagnosed with it about a year ago. He'd never blocked before, but they found crystals in his urine when he had a urinary infection. Last Wednesday night, he became completely blocked (his urethra). He was SCREAMING in the litter box, so I rushed him to the vet. They cleared the blockage, and kept him catheterized for a few days. Now he's on an antibiotic and a new prescription food. He goes back for a re-check in 2 weeks. But he seems to be fine.
