Eggs are GONE!
There were 14 duck eggs, in my front yard, as of yesterday. I really looked forward to having baby ducklings running around. Now, all that's left is a little indention in the earth and feathers.

A co-worker told me either a Raccoon or Coyote probably "had an omelet."

I'm so sad.

2. Your co-worker is probably right.
And it sounds like the predator got the mama duck too. That's so sad.

4. I'll look around the neighborhood tomorrow for the mother
I sure hope she's ok..she was the smallest of all the ducks in the area.

3. Mother nature takes its course.
It's not always pretty, but it's all part of a bigger plan.

Godspeed little ducklings!

Yes, I know
I'm trying really hard to look at it that way. It was stupid to get so attached to eggs.

5. I'm sorry that it ended this way,but...
think of it this way (I always try to imagine this for my loved ones, human or other); All of them are safe and sound, they are just no longer visible. They are in a safe place where the water is clean and full of food, there are no dangerous predators, and they are loved.

7. Just in case anybody cares, momma duck is fine.
I'm still depressed about this. Now, I've been wondering if a person in our neighborhood took the eggs, because we have figured out it was during daylight hours that they all disappeared. And, it's doubtful a wild animal would come into our front yard during the middle of the day.

10. Some people eat duck eggs, I guess.
I was afraid some predator got the mama duck too because you said you found feathers at the site. At least she's OK.

11. I'm glad she seems to be ok, too
The feathers are like the small, underneath, fuzzy feathers used to help make a nest. I should have said that, but I couldn't post much from work.

I am still so sad about this. It's weighed heavily on me all day.

13. There was not even 1 remnant of a single shell

The mother duck was sill laying the eggs, so she wasn't yet staying with them at all times. Someone explained to me...that way they all hatch at once. Well, they would have all hatched at once.
