I can't believe I'm doing this.
I used to be in the electronic components business, then left that field 15 years ago to start my advertising agency.

Now, one of my customers wants to sell his electronic components business, and it's looking an awful lot like I'm going to buy it, and be in that business again.

And furthermore, have a business partner, which I've sworn for years I'd never do.

I must be fucking nuts. But I'm pretty sure I'm going to do it anyway. Especially because three people who used to work for me have promised they'll jump ship and come to work for me. And they're damn good people who are not beng treated as well as they deserve to be in their current situation.

I must be fucking nuts. But I could provide employment with decent wages for a couple of dozen people, and make it so they could afford health insurance and some education; the company would, of course, reimburse education costs at 100% for all workers, and provide ESL and GED classes onsite at no cost.

I think I have to do this. I must be fucking nuts.

3. dealing sand can be good business
if you take care of the customer! It sounds like you're trying to convince yourself not to even though you want to. Don't go half-assed at it and you'll be fine. You may be nuts, but I'm sure you'd do fine!

Nothing I hate more than not getting a response from a rep or sales person.
I have been pretty (mind-numbingly) bored at work lately, but I don't know about sales. I'm not really a people person.

24. Engineers don't have to be people people. Just design electromechanical
stuff and talk to the engineers at the customer companies.

This is stuff that gets "sold" to engineers, not purchasing agents.

I haven't lost my mind yet, so I consider that progress :silly:

11. Thanks. I was a damn good boss when I did it before, I'll admit.
That's why those three people didn't hesitate to say yes when I asked "If I buy this company, would you come to work for me?"

I never told people who worked for me how to do things; rather I always told them "This is how I would do it. You can do it that way, or some other way if you think it would work better. And if your way works better, I want to hear about it."

Treating people with respect is always the best way to go.

12. Nah, you're not nuts. Now is a good time for branching out in business,
work and career generally. Well, for most. Assuming you've got a functional and realistic business plan and otherwise solid prospects, and it seems as if you do. No risk, no reward as they say, and some risks are worth taking. I will put you on all of my Money/Abundance meditation lists from now on. Good luck!

It's a good, solid, workable deal. The company has a nice niche market, and (I mean this) nobody knows how to exploit it better than I do. I can triple its current sales in two years without breaking a sweat.

Thank you again for your supportive words and thoughts.

50. Three very bad days in a row, actually. Paying for my past
indiscretions in a big way. And waiting for my older son to come home from work to help me upstairs, because I, well, um, actually, I can't walk right now. A revolting development, that, but I've gotten used to it over the aforementioned three days.

Getting better, though. I expect to be ambulatory tomorrow, or someone (me) will have some damn explaining to do.
