Well, I moseyed on over to a Candle Light Vigil tonight...
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 11:56 PM by WCGreen
We got great local news coverage....

A grieving father of one of the Brook Park 14 was at a vigil sponsored by Move on but not at the one I attended....

It was fun, but let me tell you folks, they shook the Hippie Tree and more than a few Dead Head came tumblin' out.....

I thought I was back in 1968...

Now I am no Mr. Conservative dresser or a stylin' suburban dude, I have rather long hair and a beard and wear jeans everywhere, but it seemed as if I had stepped into a time warp machine....

I saw a lot of people I had recognized from over the years, kind of like the professional leftist from Cleveland..... A veritable Who's Who of the Lenin Brigade, if you will...

O course I was there so what does that make me...

But I have always remained a little removed from most of our fair cities lefties simply because I abandoned the surreal Idealism of the Green Party and immersed myself in the more mainstream democratic party....

Even ran for office, which it seems, is an indication of selling out to some in this particular community....

But all and all, we had a good time, although they took it out a little too long, singing ten verses of "I ain't gonna ...... any more..." and the message was conveyed that there is a growing number of people out there concerned about the war....

I just wish, As Mrs. WCGreen use to poignantly say when we were at the Green Party meetings, they had done a little better job of appealing to the people on the front porch, the normal regular people...

Hell we all know that the lefties are with us, we need to reach out beyond that band of folks and reach into the heartland....

I was a little more encouraged when I got home to watch the news and saw there was indeed some suburbanites who weren't Unitarians, guilty, out protesting the war and what it is doing to us common folk....

Peace Out, and glad I went......

On Edit I spell ed Mosey wrong....

5. It was real fun though....
But one station just kept the camera on me....

It was uncomfortable....

And then they didn't even show it on the 11:00 news.....

9. This was why all the "Hippies" were there....
Had a real big turn out at St. Joe's over by Kamm's Corner, that all girl High School, I have a story, but neither the time or place....

They even had a small one in Westlake...

But the Biggest was in Cleveland Hts. That is where the outspoken father of the Marine from Broadview Hts chose to participate...

He didn't say anything...

Just stood there all grim...

Wouldn't talk to the press....

Beautifully put..as is your whole message, my dear WC....

I think that your points about reaching the folks on their front porches bears repeating...

Until the big boys in DC get it...

If Ohio is turning against the war....then there might indeed be hope for the country....

Bless you for going...and for reporting so eloquently back to us...

12. I haven't been able to attend any of the vigils
but I've got a candle given to me by my grandmother that I light every night...I've sat a picture of Cindy next to it.

Corny yes but it's my own one man vigil for this brave woman.

18. Thinking about starting to attend demos in a suit and tie
I think it might be a good way to draw camera time, and might just help get the people from the porch out in the street. OK, maybe butch woman in a suit isn't quite mainstream, but it's not bad. I'm also thinking that work clothes of any kind will do good in helping mainstream folks feel comfortable.

19. To much counter culture stuff....
Not that there is anything wrong with that,,,,

It's just that people on porch see this and automatically thing it is on the fringe....

Still, over 1800 people in Cleveland Turned out for the vigil....
