Can I not even escape them at a Gaming site???
:eyes:

One's sig line for a Computer Game site:

Evolution:The fairy tale for adults.

We need protein for life. Odds of just ONE protein forming by chance are 1080 to 1 against. (1080 means 1 followed by 80 zeroes.) For two proteins, odds are 10160 to 1 against. But the SIMPLEST life form needs 2000 proteins! Odds: a breathtakingly huge 10160000 to 1 against.

The end result is that there is zero chance of life happening by random accident.

Where the hell did this weisenheimer learn math? Last I heard 1080 meant 1 followed by a zero then an eight then another zero :)

4. I laughed at that too.
I was going to post something snarky, but that probably just would have gotten me banned. Because off-topic and especially political stuff is strictly prohibited.

(so how does he keep his sig??)

3. well 10160000 to 1 happened a trillion trillion times
in 4 billion years. It was INEVITABLE that it happened.

We should change the name to INEVITABLE DESIGN. Or Irrelevant Design.

5. Ask them how they calculated the odds...
They have to know the actual number of possible outcomes to compute the odds, so ask them on what basis these are figured.

And then tell them I have a jelly roll pan with 999 BB-sized indententions in the bottom and one BB-sized hole that goes all the way through. If I toss a BB into the jelly roll pan and shake it around long enough, what are the odds that the BB will eventually fall through?

12. I'll take those odds
although they seem low to me. Given the number of stars in the universe (10x10^20) and the amount of time that has passed (roughly 6 billion years) the odds say that something with only a 10 million to one chance of happening will actually happen millions of times.

Look at it this way, any given ticket has a roughly 1 in 120,000,000 chance of winning powerball (all five numbers and the powerball, source: idaho lottery: http://www.ildado.com/powerball_odds.html) and yet, in 2002, NINE winning tickets were sold (. So an event that is ten times LESS likely that these odds happened NINE times in 2002 alone.

that's the problem with using odds to argue against something, if you play enough, eventually they come up.

I bet this guy buys lottery tickets...

13. Good ending statement -
"buys lottery tickets".

Most people simply don't understand odds and probability and statistics, and so make up their own bullshit.

They'll happily buy lottery tickets, but are afraid of flying because of the high rate of plane disasters.

They'll happily put their kids in their car and drive 20-30 miltes a day or more, but they put their kids on a leash in public because it's almost guaranteed that someone will kidnap the kid.

They'll happily put a hundred bucks on the number 24 in roulette, but won't put $100 into a S&P tracking mutual fund because that's just "a crap shoot".

And so on and so on and so on.

And this asshole with the sig line - a one in 10^160,000 chance of something happening when? Just once in 10^15 years? Is that the chance every second? Per planet? Per solar system?

Stupid asshole clown-masurbating shitheads.

Like you say, given a certain probability, and enough time and enough iterations, eventually it's gonna happen. The odds of getting all sixes on a million dice is pretty fucking slim, but roll them long enough, and eventually it's more than likely to happen.

15. I'd present him with the Douglas Adams argument :)
From the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy regarding the population of the universe . . . . "It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination."

14. "Evolution:The fairy tale for adults"?
Which of these sounds more like a fairy tale: humans and all living things evolved from simple organisms over a long period of time or an invisible man in the sky willed everything into being in about 6 days and made man out of dirt (and woman out of one of his ribs)?
