A belated GOOD MORNING!
From sunny Norway, where I this morning, for the first time this autumn, nearly slipped on the icy surface! What a wonderful world, living in a country with 2,5 months of summer and 7 months of winter each year! Yahoo! Who needs sun, eh?

Not complaining - it's nearly Friday, and on Saturday there's loads of football on the telly! Enjoy the new day, friends (whenever you wake up)!

2. I have been to Finland, and thought it was beautiful
It was a short visit, on my way to a longer visit in Russia. I always vowed I would return, I enjoyed it that much. I am sure that I would love Norway, as well, but I would prefer the 2.5 months of summer! I live in the Northeastern U.S., in Upstate New York, serious snow country, and I certainly don't need more of it! LOL! Someday I will visit Norway, I am sure. I hope that you can also visit the U.S. A DU gathering might be a fitting occasion! Good morning (Thursday for me) and welcome to DU!:hi:

4. Gad, has it been nearly 10 years?
I last made it to your terrific country for Lilliehammer, '94. And if celebrity boxing ever makes it big in Norway, we would be glad to extradite our heroine Tonya Harding for good.

Wow, those were great games, my favorite as a spectator along with Barcelona '92 and Sydney '00. I saw Johann Olav Koss once, plus Bonnie Blair. Never made it to see Bjorn Dahlie. And I was so pessimistic about Dan Jansen's chances in the 1000, his weakest event, that I skipped it at the last minute. True genius.

I think that was the third time I visited Norway. The drive from Bergen to Oslo was breathtaking along the fjords, although the road was so narrow our family camper scraped the edge of the mountain despite our wheels never leaving the payment.

And what's the name of that park in Oslo, with statues of all the bodies wrapped together. That freaked me out as a teenager, but I appreciated it the second time.

Hey trigz, your summers may be short, but plenty of daylight in season. I remember playing golf at 10 PM or later.

And I realize the Saturday football you're referring to does not include 'Canes/'Noles, Sooners/Longhorns or Buckeyes/Badgers. Those are the biggies here this week.

5. Yep, the Lillehammer olympics were good
And cold, not at least. I spent a night sleeping in a tent together with two friends along the cross-country skiing track the night before the 50 km race...in 27 degrees centigrade minus (what a moron).

The park you refer to is Vigeland Park with its human sculptures, created by August Vigeland. You were most probably freaked out by the "monolith", a 15 metre high sculpture of human bodies piled together. I think it's splendid; the park itself is one of the nicest places in Oslo.

The drive from Bergen to Oslo is spectacular along the coast - but the mountains is a lot more fun. Try that the next time. I live in Oslo myself. Actually, that is a wonderful thing about Norway: I live in a suburb to the city, just 15 minutes away from the centre by metro, but nonetheless with a lake and a forest just outside my doorstep. It's stuff like that I learned to appreciate only after having lived abroad for some years.

You're of course correct in that the American style football isn't what I'm looking forward to; the final round of the qualifiers for the European Championships 2004 are on this weekend, meaning beer, footy and mates, all Saturday. Should be a scream! :)

From slightly icey, 0 degrees centigrade-Norway, where I arrived late for work due to the everyday queue on the highway coming into town. Then again, I had the unmitigated pleasure of watching the Mossad security guard bastard outside the Israeli Embassy slip and fall on his arse when I passed him ten minutes ago. Hilarious, wohoo!

friendly neighborhood Norwegian, these days trying to shake off my lunatic tendencies which make me a complete insomniac around the time of the full moon (slept badly for 4 hours last night for the fourth night in a row). Today, our fantastic country sports minus degrees for the first time this autumn, coupled with icy cars and a f*cking awful, cold wind which almost knocked me off my feet this morning, with myself still knackered from changing tyres on my car last night. An exciting event for tonight will surely be going out with my colleagues for some fantastic Sushi, along with the old pint or two.

In other news, my wife has officially christened our car, a lovely Fiat Brava, as "Gina". Silly? Certainly, but, you know, she's pregnant, so just leave her to it. Oh, and the ice hockey season has started!

From Oslo, Norway as always, today sporting the news that during the night, some idiot has run riot with a great big truck in Oslo while drunk, causing serious damage to nine cars around the city, and this Norwegian got his tax return from last year the other day, meaning this weekend will be Party weekend! And last night my insomnia went away, meaning I slept like a child all night. Oh, and the sushi last night was outstanding, with some fine Norwegian beer to boot. Splendid!

Good morning to you all! ;)

21. A freezing Monday GOOD MORNING, AMERICA! An exciting weekend
saw me participate in a national tournament in table hockey, play dreadfully and finish 11th, before I went and caught a match with my local team in the second division of the national ice hockey league on Sunday (they won!).

Friday was magnificent, as me and my wife for the first time heard the sound of our baby's heartbeat for the very first time. I must say, until that moment the two greatest moments of my life had been my wedding, and when Norway beat Brazil 2-1 in the World Cup in football back in 1998, but this was really something special. I was so happy I cried with joy for the next hour, and I'm not usually big on crying! Everything is just swell and the little one is doing well inside my wife's belly...so when I got outside today, I couldn't care less that we had -5 degrees centigrade and the coldest day of the autumn so far.

A GOOD MORNING to all of you, wherever you are :)

As I said in my earlier post, "Indian Summer" and 70+ degree temperatures are, apparently, a thing of the past here. We're expecting below normal temperatures here this week, some below freezing, but no snow yet, thank heavens!:-(

My big news is that my nearly-feral cat has let me pet her, for the very first time, and last weekend I adopted a new dog!:-)

23. Good morning USA from Oslo, Norway!
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 05:04 AM by trigz
Yes, it seems like a mirage, but today, horrendously, the first snow is falling as we speak. It's the 21st October in this ice cube of a country, and today's newspaper brought the wonderfully exciting news that my football team Lillestrøm SK are in the midst of a player revolt with the aim of getting rid of the highly unpopular coach, Arne Erlandsen. "What do I care", you all must be thinking, and indeed, you're absolutely right!

The weather gives me the feeling of "quiet before the storm", and mark my words, inside two days I may very well be reporting a blizzard. The winter has arrived and we have six months of dark, gloomy and freezing cold days and nights ahead of us. Good for me, then, that I went out and got the magnificent "Pro Evolution Soccer 3" for my PS2 yesterday to keep me busy throughout the winter (and annoying the wife over my spending money on "shit", as she so eloquently put it, he-he!).

Good morning dears, wherever you are!

27. Once again GOOD MORNING to Rhiannon and anyone else following this thread
from a harrowing place they call Norway. Today, I'm wearing my sheepskin winter coat for the first time this winter, with a green, Irish rugby hat and a pair of heavily-stuffed army boots. Yes folks, it is indeed that cold on this October Thursday. Oslo is, as anyone with a map will tell you, a city by the coast (actually by the Oslo fjord), ungratefully providing us with high air humidity which, of course, makes today's -3 degrees feel more like -10.

Last night was fun, what with Euroepean Champions League football on the telly, and myself over at a mate's house playing table hockey and drinking lovely Carlsbergs all night. After all, Wednesday is commonly known in Norway as "little Saturday", although I've never found out why.

Good morning everybody, wherever you are! ;)

In other news, I hope to update my weblog later on today, while counting the hours remaining before the weekend kicks off with English football and beer on Saturday, and Norwegian football and frustration on Sunday, accompanied by a promising lunch in the woods with ten of the best friends of my wife and me Saturday afternoon, complete with a fire, hot dogs and the occasional beer. Today is much better. There's still a chill in the air, but at least the sun is out. I think I have seasonal affective disorder. I can't stand the gloom of winter and it getting dark so early. Tomorrow night we move the clocks back an hour, so it will be dark before six at night. At least the additional hour will benefit those who are in Washington, D.C., to join the protests. I know some people who are going, but they're four guys and I'd be a fifth wheel. Also, I just acquired a new dog and it wouldn't be fair to leave her.

39. GOOOOOOD MORNING AMERICA!
From a surprisingly warm Norway, where the weather never ceases to throw up pleasant surprises: Today 10° centigrade, all the snow has gone away, and the weather man on the telly tells me that more snow is at least one week away! Keep it coming!

On other fronts, I last night went to see my friend and his girlfriend, and the world's most gorgeous little toddler. Their son was born five days ago and slept like a stone when we got there ... until feeding time arrived, at which he woke up and demanded a breast, dammit! He's a great little chap who looks a lot like his dad, and the sheer joy and happiness on his parents' faces really made my week something special.

Coming up on Thursday is mine and Rachel's (my wife) visit to the doctor for our ultrasound checkup. I'm looking forward to it and so is she, but of course, we're also silently tense, hoping to God almighty that all is well with our little one, who now is 19 weeks old and a majestic 22 centimetres long. We have no indication of anything being wrong, but you know how it is!

Norway is particularly nice this fine morning with the two most happy people in the world currently residing in Lørenskog outside Oslo. I know, I went to see them last night! ;)

A good morning to you all and have a nice day!

The ultrasound checkup for our baby was done this morning, and I have for the first time seen my offspring. Like myself at that stage he was kicking around bigtime, everything looked good, and at one stage he even turned his face towards us and waved his little hand (and I have the picture to prove it!).

This is the best day of my life so far! Nothing, nothing can beat this - until the little guy is born, that is!

Have a splendid day across the pond!

I haven't been on in a couple of days and wanted to see how you are doing. Do you know that the baby is a boy? When is he expected to make his appearance? It sounds like you have wonderful news.:D

I spent the afternoon at the vet's. My cat has a growth in her ear which had to be removed. It has spread, but is still localized, so that is good. This is a cat I rescued from outdoors and the first time I took her there she bit my friend who helped me catch her and she had to be sedated. Today she just sat there through everything and let one of the girls carry her around and just purred! I was very pleased about that! She just walked across the keyboard and deleted an entire line! LOL!:-)

Have a great day, trigz, and greetings from Northern New York State! It has gotten much warmer after two chilly rainy days and the sun is out! I long for summer as I had to drive home in the dark and know it is all downhill from here!

44. Things are looking up for a year in succession, I'm happy to say :)
Anyhow no, we don't know whether the kid is a lad or a girl yet, the wife doesn't want to know :(

Anyway, she's convinced it's a boy, so whenever I talk about the small one I tend to slip into talking about him or her as a "he".

Personally, I'm thinking it's a girl, so I suppose one of us will get it right! Always nice to hear from you, Rhiannon, stay well and have a great weekend! :)

To be honest, I don't understand when people don't want to know the sex of the baby. I would think knowing would make things so much easier. My cousin was like that and I thought this, at the time.

I wish you well, in any case. It is Halloween here with lots of ghosts and goblins ringing my doorbell expecting candy. A strange tradition, but I dare not buck it, though the kids who came this year were too young to be the sort that would commit vandalism.

I'm glad that things are looking up for you. When is the baby expected? I would be disappointed if I missed his or her appearance in this world. You have a great weekend, as well!:-)

49. Hello there and good afternoon, Rhiannon!
Yup, Halloween has come and gone here as well. I dressed up in a spanking new "Scream" mask with a special function that caused "blood" to splash all over the face of the mask at the press of a little pump, which scared the shit out of many a poor girl.

Baby's due on the 7th April to be precise - yesterday morning, I got a message from the wife saying that she'd felt a distinct movement on the inside of her belly. She's felt signs of life for weeks already, but this was a much stronger sensation than that, so my little buddy is causing havoc in there already, a bit like myself at that stage! Oh and don't worry, Democratic Underground will certainly be notified when my little boss has arrived! :)

43. Good morning, yankees!
The weather stinks today, but who cares! Pinned to my keyboard is a picture of the little being inside the wife's belly, and life is sweet. Tonight we're off for a wholesome Halloween celebration which should be a barrel of laughs, whereas tomorrow brings us the final day of the season in our national football league with Lillestrøm taking on Lyn Oslo, in Oslo. I will attend, freeze my balls off, then go down the pub to ponder a mind-numbing 0-0 draw. Yikes!

Speaking of football, I yesterday went to train with my team for the first time in two months (a hamstring injury and general lazyness has kept me away, plus the fact of being busy). Today? Oh, the pain, the pain! On the plus side I scored a cracker of a goal from 20 yards out last night, but hell, my body is destroyed today. Better stop smoking and start running, pronto!

GOOD MORNING to you all and have a splendid Friday across the Atlantic!

47. GOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING, GRINGOS!
Norway is pishing down with rain on this grim Monday morning with the realisation that the football season is over and there being six months of ice skating, cross-country skiing and general boredom until it all starts over again in April. Oh well, musn't grumble, there's still English footy on the telly.

Good morning world!

Little else to do but to get through the day today - weather is crisp but nice, no snow and a lovely fog. This afternoon I'm going to a receivement in the Italian embassy here. Will probably be rather dull, but with lots of wine and parmesan cheese!

It is the crack of dawn, here. An odd time for me to be up. I just thought I'd take a look at the election results. There was nothing big on the ballot, just local offices, but a Democrat actually won over a Republican for county judge! That's a near-miracle in my part of the country! Good morning Rhiannon and the rest of America - it's coming up towards lunch time over here, and with my workload for this week more or less done already thanks to unusually amounts of energy, I'm looking forward to a calm end to the working week. Until I start work on Sunday morning in my other job as a sports reporter, that is. Yikes.

Anyhow, I found out how to post pictures on DU, so I'll just go on and post a couple, won't I. Have a splendid day, dears: It's 7 degrees centigrade over here and the country is rejoicing!

Mine did, also, since I was up with a stomach ache last night until 5am and only managed to get four hours sleep. I had an appointment at 11! That'll teach me to eat fried food! Anyway, I made it through three appointments and just need to run one more errand. Tomorrow, I'm sleeping in! Hope you can do the same!:boring:

It has been a beautiful, sunny autumn day here in Northern New York. This is the first day this week that it hasn't been pouring rain and most of the leaves are off the trees. Colder temperatures and snow are predicted...:-(

Monday, my dog underwent surgery about 40 minutes away and I had to make the trip home in the dark and the rain with two dogs in the car and I cannot see well to drive at night, but I made it. My dog is definitely on the mend and goes back next week for a check-up and to have stitches removed. I don't have a photo of myself or my new dog to post, but here is my little guy. He is eight pounds and thinks he's a Rottweiler! LOL! Have a great weekend!:hi:

Anyhow, to get results from the tournament I played over the weekend and more info on the sport, check out The Euroleague site or even better the results list from Saturday's tournament. and the U.S.? I could probably figure it out from your post, LOL! I believe it was either five or six hours later than the U.S. when I was in Russia, depending where you were. I also visited Finland, briefly, but I was so jet-lagged, at that point, that I hardly knew what day it was! I remember thinking it was a beautiful country and I'd like to visit again when I could spend more time there. The people were also exceptionally nice. My parents have been to Norway.
