A formal request to strike "...rip him a new one" from English discourse
I don't know who came up with the phrase "He ripped him a new one", or the sundry variations of thereof; but I would made very happy to learn that he himself later was made to suffer such an unsavory fate.
If this starts falling to the archives, we can always discuss the untold number of other obnoxious or otherwise tiresome phrases that need to be struck from the English language. About half of them originate with the sitcom "Martin," not surprisingly.
