You just have to know how to go about this.

First, call the DA's office tomorrow and make an appointment with an assistant DA. Take your documentation, the e mail, proof of your activism, etc. Explain the situation calmly and ask for a restraining order. Take notes.

Next ask to file a complaint for teroristic threats. (That's what it's called). Tell them you are taking this very seriously.

Next, call a few attorneys in the phone book and discuss the options for a law suit. Violating your civil rights. It's political, you're protected. You could even call the local ACLU and see what they have to say. They do help people in these situations. They really do.

Part of what it means to stick your neck out there is to be ready willing and able to defend yourself and your right to express your views. It's just plain unlawful to threaten someone into silence. Seriously !

If you can, print out this e-mail with FULL headers (don't know what e-mail program you use so I can't help you with that but usually you can access full headers under the 'view' menu).

In these headers should be the IP address or FQDN (fully qualified domain name) of where this e-mail orginated. Likely it ends up in a modem pool at this neanderthal's internet provider. It could uniquely identify a particular computer connected to a cable modem or DSL services.

Either way, give the print out with the full headers to the FBI. If you can't get a print out with the full headers, don't delete the message and ask the FBI to get someone who can do that for you.

The FBI can use this information to track down the jerk who sent this.
