I'm talking about movies that people will watch decades from now, the way people today watch TAXI DRIVER and THE GODFATHER and CASABLANCA and 2001. Those movies have found new audiences decades after they were made. I think there were some movies made in the 90s that are good enough to be remembered 40 or 50 years from now. Here's my list:
PULP FICTION THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS SEVEN JURASSIC PARK THE MATRIX SCHINDLER'S LIST THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION SAVING PRIVATE RYAN FORREST GUMP GOODFELLAS AMERICAN BEAUTY PHILADELPHIA SPEED TERMINATOR 2 THE PROFESSIONAL RONIN FIGHT CLUB THE SIXTH SENSE
There are tons more that are worthy of being called classics, but I can't think of them.
The Coen's "The Big Lebowski" (Verrrry Preston Sturges-like) and "O' Brother Where Art Thou"
Oliver Stone's " Natural Born Killers"
Sam Mendes' "Road To Perdition"
And the comedic Holy trinity of Guest/McKean/Shearer's "This Is Spinal Tap", "Waiting For Guffmann", and "Best In Show" ("A Mighty Wind" comes close...but not quite)
Kid_a, I'd narrow your list down to SCHINDLER'S LIST THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION SAVING PRIVATE RYAN THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS Of these I thought The Shawshank Redemption was the best. It didn't deal with huge issues like SPR and SL but was very well done.
