For me, it's peas and carrots.

Actually, we go out and buy essentials to donate, such as cream of mushroom soup and kidney beans.

Not to piggyback on your post, but do vegetarians/vegans out there feel strange about imposing your dietary choices on the people to whom you donate food? This is a frequent dilemma in our house.

3. Actually, none
That's because I give them money. A friend volunteers at a local food bank and says that they can get more food for the money than we can even at Costco or similar. BTW, I'm not criticizing because if actual food is what you want to give then do it. Also, the friend says that this summer their cupboards are emptier than any in recent memory. Sorry to carry on but nondenominational food banks are a favorite charity of mine.

7. That's what I do, too.
Oh, sure I give some special food items around the holidays, as well. But cash gifts enable the food banks to obtain most needed items. All too often, that includes a need for infant formula and nourishing meals for toddlers and small children, and these things are the least donated.

4. My dad once sent Conch Chowder and Turtle Soup with me to school
for our drive. He got a bunch of the (not very good) canned concentrate while on the trip, and we refused to eat it (we did try it :puke:).

I was in seventh grade. Just another one of Dad's great ideas to make me stand out...

6. Well, it used to be canned yams - the ones I didn't remember why I bought
them in the first place....but, ehm, I don't 'do that anymore'. Now I don't give the food bank anything that I wouldn't want my own family to have. When I see a really good sale, I'll purchase some for the family and for the food bank too.

8. Fresh bananas
You think I'm kidding! Last night on TV they showed a truck from Albertson's donating 40,000 lbs of stuff to the local food bank. They open the gates on the back of the semi and there's pallets and pallets of bananas!

:wtf:
