FINALLY A POLL: NO Speech was a flop. Ratings fall further:
Bush Katrina Ratings Fall After Speech

September 18, 2005--Thirty-five percent (35%) of Americans now say that President Bush has done a good or excellent job responding to Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. That's down from 39% before his speech from New Orleans.

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that 41% give the President poor marks for handling the crisis, that's up 37% before the speech.

rights, smash gay Americans harder, get the "under God" in the pledge front and center, cut the taxes, put some "boots on the ground" in another place, make new ribbons for the cars, stop abortion, get women back in the kitchen......

34. At this point, I doubt that would work for them.

Katrina softened up their hardcore supporters.

And if we have another "terrorist strike" on our shores, that will put to bed FOREVER their yammering about how "he's keeping us SAFE!!!" Now that the WHOLE WORLD, including our own America AND our media have seen the response to Katrina (and evidently it's NOT being forgotten so easily), provoking another strike isn't really a good option for them anymore. It would/will mean that anyone who still clings to the idiotic "well, we haven't had another terrorist attack since 9/11, so he must be doing a good job, huh?" or "he's keeping us SAFE!!!" will be proven to be a fool. That mewling crap just won't wash anymore. Not even for them. That'll be the end, then and there. And I think they realize it.

Otherwise, why would it even be a kkkarl rove battle cry - for bush to open his checkbook and start throwing money at the mess? That they've even had to consider, no less openly suggest a HUGE federal government involvement that is being compared to FDR means they're out of other options.

4. And it seems as if he alienated the Republican base
For every point he got back from mushy middle types, he alienated the same number of Republican conservatives. They don't much like spending all of that money on poor people and negroes.

Maybe there was something in Karl Rove's kidney stones that reduced his effectiveness.

7. It was a lose-lose situation:
Side A: Two weeks after the fact looked like what it was -- trying to save his own backside. No bounce from the libs or upset mods. Plus the spending thing was already offset by the amazing appearance of Halliburton with another no-bid contract.

Side B: Massive spending on poor and minorities = angry white conservatives.

I would take it all with a grain of salt and wait for a better poll to make any conclusions.

14. Such glaring contrast to the days of the Clinton Penis Hunt.
Bill would endure a week or so of withering, baseless attacks from the Reich Wing, aided by the Whore Media. Then he would talk to the people on TV for thirty minutes and his poll numbers would go up.

Fast forward to 2005. bu$hler's handlers put him on TV to try and salvage something of their investment and his numbers go down.

Long live The Clenis, aka Suck on THIS, Georgie!

Remember New Orleans

My fear, though, is that if his ratings get too low - say maybe at 33%, possibly at 25%, he'll authorize another terrattack to boost his ratings up again.
