CNN to air special about the "dead wrong" intel on Iraq
Dead Wrong: Inside an Intelligence Meltdown

The president builds a case for pre-emptive war based substantially on evidence that Saddam Hussein was developing weapons of mass destruction. But the weapons and the WMD programs were not found. "Dead wrong" is how a presidential commission described the pre-war intelligence. National Security Correspondent David Ensor pieces together the chain of events that led to the faulty intelligence and examines the roles played by key players in the Bush administration and the intelligence community.

I just saw the promo for it. The words "Dead Wrong" nearly covered the entire screen. :D

1. I saw it as cover for Bush Lies
It apears as though they will do the old blame the intelligence community instead of the "twisting intelligence to fit the facts" that really happened. I am not hopeful.

2. The Iraq war will go down as the darkest event in US history
An unprovoked attack on a country based on lies and greed.

Just another try to preemptively squash the Return of the DSM.

There IS gonna be a return, right?

Please?

On edit : unless they mention the White House Iraq Group and the OSP, they are talking out of their behinds. Which will not be surprising.

The Spies Who Pushed For War
Thursday July 17, 2003

As the CIA director, George Tenet, arrived at the Senate yesterday to give secret testimony on the Niger uranium affair, it was becoming increasingly clear in Washington that the scandal was only a small, well-documented symptom of a complete breakdown in US intelligence that helped steer America into war.

<snip>

According to former Bush officials, all defence and intelligence sources, senior administration figures created a shadow agency of Pentagon analysts staffed mainly by ideological amateurs to compete with the CIA and its military counterpart, the Defence Intelligence Agency.

The agency, called the Office of Special Plans (OSP), was set up by the defence secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, to second-guess CIA information and operated under the patronage of hardline conservatives in the top rungs of the administration, the Pentagon and at the White House, including Vice-President Dick Cheney.

The ideologically driven network functioned like a shadow government, much of it off the official payroll and beyond congressional oversight. But it proved powerful enough to prevail in a struggle with the State Department and the CIA by establishing a justification for war.

8. It always amazes me how little this gets covered
I've heard Chris Matthews mention it in passing, but the OSP should be a major topic along with the DSM.

7. Remember
the battle for America is an information war. Call them out for fabrications designed to hide the truth.

10. Its gonna be entirely bullshit, won't blame Bush
it will just continue the right wing practice of blaming the CIA, and will paint Bush as a victim.
